Conference organizer, publisher and investor Tim O’Reilly doesn’t mince words. In this video he talks candidly about what he hated at TechCrunch50 today, what he loved and what excites him about the Web right now.
O’Reilly is a consummate thought leader in the Valley so the interview is interesting for anyone. But if you’re planning on actually pitching O’Reilly on anything this is required viewing.
Oh, he also explains what he and the Cookie Monster have in common. Video is on the jump. (Sorry for the abrupt edits. Trying to keep these interviews on the short-side.)

Something was cut out. There was a jump at about 1:32
What was cut?
Nevermind.
Keeping interviews short and stuff. Gotcha.
Don’t you guys make enough money to buy a video camera with image stabilization built-in? Or perhaps you’re going for a trademark look and feel for all TechCrunch videos… that “shot by an epileptic videographer” feel.
Sorry to rain on your negativity parade, but it’s not an issue of money.
The individual holding the camera was clearly doing an impromptu interview.
A simple tripod would take care of the issue, but it was obviously a spontaneous situation.
the jumpy image doesn’t bother me but to your point about it being “a spontaneous situation.” – that’s a little ridiculous. She’s done several of these interviews over the past few days. Her intent was clearly to interview him and post the result online. She didn’t just bump into him at Starbucks and pull out her trusty handicam….
or in one word: amateur
Sarah, you could shoot noddies after the interviews – reverse angle shots of you asking the q’s or nodding to cut in to hide the edits (if you want to look like an oldschool TV person, that is).
good interview!
way to laugh at the joke without getting it first.
he makes some good points, and it had nothing to do with the horrible title of this post.
Can we please expurgate the term “thought leader” from English? “Thought leader” is the web 2.0 equivalent of another much loathed term – evangelist.
