Online spreadsheet software provider EditGrid today is rolling out a set of enhancements including analytics and mashup functionality that adds to the image retrieval capability we wrote about last month.

The new analytics (shown to the left) will let spreadsheet owners track views and visits over a spreadsheet’s lifetime.

The new mashup functionality will let you dynamically import graphs from Google Charts, Yahoo Finance, Reuters, Alexa, and Compete using simple in-cell functions.

EditGrid is additionally debuting a beta version of its Excel plugin, which can be used to import to and export from Excel, allowing for offline editing.

Finally, EditGrid now offers a set of over thirty templates with which you can start building your spreadsheets.

In addition to adding new functions, the release incorporates integration to both consumer and enterprise applications.

• Mashup Function – The image function fetches live images/charts from other Web services into a spreadsheet cell. The function can be used to fetch charts dynamically based on values stored in cells. (See example here)
• Merge Cell Function – EditGrid supports both horizontal and vertical merge cell while Google Spreadsheet and Zoho Sheet only support horizontal merge cell.
• EditGrid Plug-in for Confluence – EditGrid partners with Atlassian to offer EditGrid as the default plug-in for Confluence hosted customers.
• EditGrid App for Facebook – EditGrid’s application is available on Facebook. See our well-designed integration.

With this new release, EditGrid aims to reach more users “by embracing the Web 2.0 platform and integrating with enterprise and social platforms.”

The company recently signed a deal with ThinkFree that sees EditGrid now offered as the primary spreadsheet tool within ThinkFree Office. Other deals include partnerships with Central Desktop, Salesforce.com, ShareMethods and StartForce, with EditGrid being offered within each service.

EditGrid features include the ability for users to collaborate on spreadsheets simultaneously and see changes happen in real-time. A remote data feature provides access within the spreadsheet to external data, allowing those sources to be updated in real time. Aesthetically EditGrid looks and feels like Microsoft Excel, delivering a familiar platform for those looking to make the switch to online office applications.
