I'm was using GV with a sipgate.com number to make free calls to the US via any wireless connection on my iphone.
Fring was setup and running in the background to take incoming calls from sipgate and GV was setup to forward to sipgate.

Before this html5 "improvement" I would browse to GV in safari on the iphone and enter the US number I want to call in the box then Google then would ring my sipgate number which would come through to the iphone via fring for free (connected via wireless/3G) which I'd answer to then get connected to the number I want to call, all for FREE even though I was outside the US via wireless. (in the UK)

Now the html5 ap has changed all that for the worse.
So instead of calling you for free prior to connecting you, it now tries to dial out after you enter the number you want t call by using your iphones sim instead!!
Even if I was in the US this would now cost me a local call but I'm in the UK, international rate!! OUCH!

SOULUTION?

Thanks to the man above.
UserAgent Faker is confirmed as a working solution on my jailbroken iPhone, so now no more fancy html5 GV for me, I'm back to the normal html GV on Safari where it lets me enter the number the old way and rings me for free.
Cheers guys!

I know, right??? It's totally criminal for them to lock down their app store. I mean, if any of us had a choice to use the phone or not, that would be one thing, but since we're all required by law to own iPhones and buy apps from Apple....

I don't know what could be more worse than not to add a GPS capability like the ones from garmin on this model, I mean its 2010 already, right? GPS should be a part of our normal lives. <b>GPS details: http://bit.ly/diy-gps-guide</b>

I refuse to pay $20 a month for texting on my phone for two reasons: 1. I actually have little need for it, and 2. It's highway robbery.

So SMS notifications are not free for me. My minutes aren't free, either. I don't pay for unlimited access - I save $40 a month and get a lower plan, which I usually end up rolling over the minutes of.

Your argument is that a site that offers *you* no tangible benefit must therefore be of no use to *anyone*. Not a very solid argument to make, IMO.

That's most likely the case, but lame nonetheless.

Until I jailbreak my iPhone (and employ the likes of UserAgentFaker or similar tactic), I'll most likely purchase the LogMeIn Ignition App ($30.00 USD) and remotely access GoogleVoice (via my notebook's FireFox Browser) to initiate the usual GoogleVoice callback to my iPhone for those numbers I don't already have on my AT&T A-List(Favs). Man, the things I go thru to 'beat the system' back.

First off I would like to say that yes, it is great that Google has finally, after 4 or 5 months of being rejected, released a new web version of the Google Voice service for the iPhone. Everything in the web app is better than the outdated one with one exception.
Many people, including myself, decided to put our Google Voice number in our A-list (AT&T) or Fav 5 (T-mobile) so that based on the Google Voice callback system we would be getting free minutes. For those of you who do not know about this yet; once you placed a call via Google Voice either on their old mobile web version or any PC browser you would receive a incoming call on your phone that is listed as your Google Voice number that would connect you to the party that you dialed, therefor allowing you unlimited outbound calls.
The simple solution to this would be give us a option of what we would like to do. I understand that many people who are not so concerned about minutes would prefer the new method without having to pick up a call after you place one. With all that said great job Google and I hope that Apple will one day allow a official app store version along with a app store version of Google Lattitude

They probably made the mobile version originate the call from the phone to avoid the wrath of carriers who could up the call termination fees.

If they call you, they have to pay for the call termination on both ends. If you originate the call from your phone, the termination on their end isn't subject to wireless carrier rates, and only the outbound may be.

While I applaud the new web-based app, the fact that a work around like this is needed in the first place is inexcusable. Apple's move to deny Google (and me) the right to use a native app is criminal!

The reason is cost. When the website Initiated the call by calling me this meant it was a free call with the AT&T a-list. Now it is making an outgoing call to a new number. If this number remains the same I can add it to my a-list and the call will remain free, however if the number changes this really stinks for people using the a-list to save on billed minutes.
