This is all kinds of awesome. For its upcoming 10th anniversary edition of David Fincher’s film Fight Club, Fox has created a website that uses Facebook Connect in one of the best ways I’ve ever seen. Once the site loads up (it takes a little while since it’s Flash-based), you simply hit a button to Connect and you’re off. The result is a mash-up of scenes from the film along with random pictures of you on Facebook.
It also pulls your name, and other details from your Facebook profile such as your career. For example, at one point, it flashes the following message to me, “you are squandering your potential as a writer.” Interesting.
I took a video grab below of it in action, but unfortunately, it doesn’t capture the sound. You need to watch this for yourself to get the full effect. Do it now. You are not your f*cking khakis.
Update: And in one of those awesome little moments of coincidence, commenter Ron reminds us that it is none other than David Fincher who is currently filming The Social Network, the new movie about Facebook, which presumably, the company isn’t too happy about.

In an amusing bit of synchronicity, Fight Club director David Fincher is now directing a movie about Facebook/Zuckerberg
wow, i can’t believe i missed that. definitely updating with that.
wow, that’s sublime
(Not as) interestingly, the author of Fight Club, Chuck Palahniuk, doesn’t have a Facebook page, but his “official site” does maintain both MySpace and Twitter accounts.
“Our generation has had no great depression”
“Our generation has had no great war”
—oops.
We got both in the decade following the movie.
but most of us are still soft idiots ruled by products. which was his original point.
(it is also ironic how this film is now promoted considering the authors message, written today I am sure it would have been ‘you are not your facebook’ etc.)
Yep, I was about to say if Fight Club were set in today’s world, Facebook servers would be one of the things the Space Monkeys would have blown up (or at least vandalized).
If you think we’ve experienced a Great Depression and a Great War in the last ten years, give it another 15-20.
I agree. The last 10 years have not brought, all-in-all, a great war of any kind or any great depression. They have been skirmishes and financial re-adjustments.
I am not sure when, 10 or 15 or 20 more … but … it is coming
Wow. Super cool.
“all kinds of awesome…”? horrible way to lead a story. c’mon dude, you can do better than that
okay, how “by golly this is appealing”?
-1
clearly you’ve never watched fight club, because fight club is all kinds of awesome.
this is by far the best things ive seen facebook connect do..
loved the way it took pictures frm my various albums and put it in between the scenes ..
nice
first rule of fight club you dont talk about fight club
Nice, but seems like just another flavor of the Prototype experience:
http://www.prot...experience.com/
Something must be wrong with the prototype experience… It keeps flashing loading all the way through the experience. Welcome to FC, doesn’t have that Good Job!
Haha great vid. Why should FaceBook be mad about David Fincher directing a new film about the company? They have a billion dollar revenue and being one of the most visited sites on the web is not going anywhere fast. I think its just another example of a “mega” company looking to control every aspect and outlet their name is expressed in. This is America after all and I say kudos David both on the epic FightClub and the new one in the works.
Not mad about who is directing it, mad about the contents.
Is it a good movie? Should I see it?
Wow, that was so cheesy … I was really expecting a lot better then that …
Activision did this execution for the launch of their title Prototype http://www.allf...nect-prototype/
And the discover channel did it for sharkweek as well http://www.allf...k-week-connect/
Personally, i liked their executions better, but it’s subjective…
Two sites have used this style previous:
The game Prototype: http://www.prototypegame.com
and
a Discovery Chanell promo for Shark Week http://dsc.disc...renzied-waters/
We’re planning on some new twists to this theme for the launch of our FB Connect spy game http://wildhero.com
Assuming this will be in beta til 2011 since you can’t spell ‘recruiting’ on the splash page…
“For its upcoming 10th anniversary addition…”
I think you meant ‘edition’
yep.
check out the CSI one at CBS, way better:

Wake me up when the video gets interesting….
Wake me up when the CSI site gets interesting….
Great use of Facebook Connect! Fight Club blu-ray is a must for my collection. I’ve been waiting too long for this release.
how do i save the vid?
Sadly you cannot, because what it does is this:
It gets your name and occupation,
It downloads, client side (this means your computer), your pictures for you to see when queued,
It displays the video and calls in the stuff you need to see when the queue requests it.
If you try this on a sloooooow computer you’ll see how the text is rendered “live”.
Which is great, because I don’t think I would like Tyler Durden having all my info and pictures.
Sorry, but I fail to see how this is a cool use of fb connect. the photos it pulls are completely random and out of context. nothing “wow” about it.
This is a huge feature, similar to twitter oauth.
@MC Siegler
You checked out how Orange are using Facebook and Twitter connect in their latest promotion for the Motorola Blur?
Not as shouty as the Fight Club one but very fun
http://mobilein...yspace-friends/
I like how brands are utilising FB Connect, very cool
Is it just me or is this pulling pictures that I have made private (for my eyes only)?
If it is doing that, AWESOME!
By the way, you are not your FaceBook profile!
The first rule of EUSP is that you always talk about EUSP. People don’t know me. They don’t know who I am. I am squandering my potential as Founder and Editor. I have lost everything. I’m free to do anything. I want to control everything. Welcome to EUSP.
