If you’re a Twitter freak and think that a dedicated Twitter device is just the thing for you, read on.
This week we saw the launch of the TwitterPeek, a cute little device built by Peek that will do just about anything you want it to do, as long as all you want it to do is access Twitter. It won’t surf the web. It won’t make phone calls. It won’t support third party apps. But it most certainly does run Twitter.
You can get it in black. Or, if you want to show a little flair, you can get in in cyan.
For some crazy reason I wanted one. A friend bought me one that I will truly love forever(ish). But the company also sent me one. And while I may or may not need one TwitterPeek, I almost certainly don’t need two TwitterPeeks.
This is where you come in.
We’re giving one of these away to a TechCrunch reader. It’s the cool one, cyan, with lifetime service that costs $200. And it’s all yours. Just retweet this post and make sure to include the short URL link – http://bit.ly/3U2Yhy – as well as the #crunch hashtag. Please only tweet the message once, anyone tweeting repeatedly will be disqualified. Tomorrow we’ll sort through all of the tweets and pick one randomly for the win. You’ll get the TweetPeek device in the mail, and we’ll throw in a TechCrunch tshirt. Even the postage is on us. But please note that in this case only U.S. readers are eligible, because the device only works in the U.S.
By the way, if this goes well and everyone doesn’t spazz out, we’ll do a giveaway every week. Next week we’ll give away a Droid if we can talk Motorola, Verizon or Google into paying for it. If you are a company that has a cool device befitting the refined tastes of a TechCrunch reader (as defined by us) and want to supply the goods, let us know in the comments or via tips@techcrunch.
Oh. And on an unrelated note, it’s unlikely we’ll be returning this test unit, Peek. Something, err, happened to it. I mean we lost it. Actually, it never arrived.
Update: Congratulations to Chris Ricca for winning the Twitter Peek contest.

I have 2 iPhones and a Touch. And for some reason I still want one. I think I have a problem.
Once you use this thing I think the problem will go away. It’s a cool looking novelty gadget but the UI is horrendeous, especially if your used to using an iphone twitter client. I also currently 3 iphones myself. That battery life on the 3gs just isn’t cutting it for a power user like me and I use my older iphones for home use!
you’re :)
oh yeah? I have 4 iphones!!!
Why do you have 4 iPhones?
Why do you have three iPhones? Are you using all 3?
What is an iTouch?
I apologize for the rash comment, @Drew. I should have realized you wrote Touch and not iTouch.
I’m not sure why the idea of this device makes me angry.
i totally understand why you feel this way.
everytime i see this device i want to beat the crap out of something
chillax. :-)
tweet tweet! i want one.
just retweeted. want one bad! (improper english intended.)
Should it have been want one bad/ly/?
http://bad.ly/wanted :-)
Awesome…I am standing here beside myself, in disbelief!
On his blog, Dave Winer wrote a post discussing the cumbersome process of canceling the peak subscription and being able to use the reaming month’s service.
Dave’s post:
“When I called the sales department, they said I could turn the service off, but I wouldn’t be able to use the remaining time on the month worth of service I had already purchased.”
http://www.scri...WorthAPeek.html
Are we in the “reaming month” now, or does that come later?
The twitterpeek is perhaps the lamest product to ever be released. I would enter this contest if only so I could video tape myself smashing it with a hammer if I won… but I won’t do that.
Has a one star rating on Amazon, greens in your state do not like it.
Only works in the states? What a fail.
On the other hand I might enter just to win the TechCrunch t-shirt.
On several count, I feel this baby died before it is born:
1. No camera, even the Twitwhores need to send their pictures once in a while.
2. If it doesn’t do web, what about those bitlys on Tweet.
3. This one competes with Zune v1.0 for worst colored gadget! (Cyan one that is).
It looks like a phone, but you can’t make calls!
oh yeah, a camera is sort of obvious. and cheap.
So Mike…. what color is the sky in your world????
This is the most absurd item that I have seen – outside of the crap that is in the Skymall magazines.
How abt sending two TC T-Shirts to places where the device doesn’t work…;)
michael – no offense, but how is this contest compliant with twitter’s guidelines:
“Discourage posting the same tweet over and over (and over) again”
http://help.twi...1/entries/68877
curious, as i really think there’s a twitter app business behind these “retweet” and/or “followers” contest concepts.
matt, I actually didn’t know about that. I added a sentence above disqualifying anyone who tweets this more than once. should take care of it. Thanks for pointing it out.
great to hear! that said, i’m entering the contest. thanks!
Nice..Here on we can see #FreeFriday trending on Twitter…But Mike, two things
1) Please announce gifts that ship internationally
2) Don’t make us tweet for a prize..Doesn’t look too different from those sponsored tweets from Payperpost..
#1 – ok
#2 – any suggestions on how to run these?
We could have it this way – Pick an issue of the week (for example, could be scamville for this week) and ask for an opinion on something related..the best comments win the prize… B-)
The straight retweet for a prize is pretty cheesy IMO. Encouraging a dialogue by asking for comment tweets linking to the article would be less so. You might give a prize to someone who criticizes the blog or the product, but at least you’re encouraging interaction instead of fanboys. I would never retweet for prize. I might give my opinion for one though.
You’ve also got the whole problem with Twitter accounts being free to set up. Lots of tweets from aDcasD3223 and AdcasD3224 and you might have a problem.
good idea. we’ll experiment.
I’d like to rename it the ‘Twitterpuke’ lol :D
Not sure of the point of it… surely those who want mobile twitter either use a smartphone or the txt service?
Could this http://www.tech...unch-prototype/ be one of the next givaways? :)
Jeez, I hope so. I’ll be entering that contest for sure! :)
Are they really going to get away with calling this TwitterPeek? Twitter’s lawyers might not appreciate that, especially given the apparent opportunistic uselessness of the product.
I’m thinking it’s aimed at the tech clueless grandmother demographic looking to buy something “cool” for Christmas presents.
Entered. I’m not sure what I will do with it, but I love free stuff.
wow, looks very tempting. As you know, we are twitter junkies over here ;) come check us out!
Yo micheal, I liked what you did and all, but Squarespace had one of the BEST TWITTER RAFFLES OF ALL TIME
Congratulations to Chris Ricca for winning the Twitter Peek contest.

Woohoo! I couldn’t really tell you why I wanted to get my hands on one, but I’m very excited. I’ll ping back if I have any brilliant insights for all the haters out there. Thanks!
I would love to have, but how about Canada, it works if you live in Canada?
