Brad Garlinghouse, a former SVP at Yahoo, joined AOL as President of Internet and Mobile Communications two months ago. And he’s clearly doing a little housekeeping, and forming his own exec team. His first major hire? Kiersten Hollars, a Digg PR exec.
Hollars is part of Garlinghouse’s old team at Yahoo, and left the company shortly after Garlinghouse did to take over PR and communications at Digg. She joins AOL later this month.
“This is more about working with Brad again, and nothing about Digg,” she told us in a phone interview this morning, adding that she’s excited about the turnaround opportunity at AOL. She joins AOL as senior director of corporate communications, reporting to both Garlinghouse and EVP Corporate Communications Tricia Primrose.
Digg’s looking for Hollars’ replacement immediately. So if you want be the person to handle all corporate communications and Kevin Rose babysitting duties at Digg, let them know.

Not going to help AOL, its a sinking ship…
[ she’s excited about the turnaround opportunity at AOL]…..ummm yeah good luck with that.
Some people enjoy a challenge
“This is more about peanut butter, and nothing about Digg”
Great hire. an A+ team is being put together over there.
LOL. Seriously? The guy who was responsible for Yahoo Messenger which flatlined, who leaks the PB Memo and caused considerable damage to Yahoo rather than dealing with the issues internally as most professionals do? And now they got some job-hopping, no-name PR flack and you think they’re putting an A-team together? From the looks of it, you may be cut out to work for AOL yourself.
job hopping no name pr flack? And you do what…SEM out of your moms basement?
Wow Mike. First Don Dodge and now this. I think e-recruiting was a better career for you.
DIGG is such a dead company. Can there be any more proof than someone leaving them for AOL? Are you kidding me? This looks REALLY bad!
While I agree that Hollars was a PR powerhouse at Digg, I think her depature signals her confidence that Digg is going to be fine without her.
Also, you’re obviously oblivious to what’s been going on at Digg. They’ve got great growth.
Hey Taylor, your analysis is interesting. Do you work at DIGG by any chance?
People do not leave companies (pre liquidation event) that are doing well. It simply doesn’t happen at this level. There’s too much to lose.
This looks like a clear repudiation of DIGG because DIGG has no exit strategy. Period.
Digg is quickly losing many of it’s key employees. Daniel Burka, Joe Stump, their UX guy and now this former Yahoo exec. Are the VC’s getting any return on their $28.7 million they invested in 2008? Some serious questions needed to be answered here.
It is a little odd… I wonder what it’s like inside the walls over at Digg.
All this talk about women and having “jobs” is just wrong!
Huh…What? Oh, I get it, this isn’t really a “job” at AOL. It is more like a “hobby” she shares with Brad.
Congrats Brad and Kiersten.
in the previous comment to this, mr BLAH has stopped by to congratulate mr IRUNGROUPSINTOTHEGROUND for bringing over mrs NOBODY from DEADCO-1 to work with him at DEADCO-2
you’re just three people who skated on what was already diminished momentum at y!
