If you’re a Google Voice user like me, you’ll be glad to print out this quick reference card that gives you all the menu options when you call the service to listen to voicemail or change settings, or receive calls.
For example, when you receive a call with Google Voice you can hear who’s calling before you answer. Hit 1 to answer the call, or hit 2 to send them to voicemail. Easy to remember. But you can also hit 3 to send them to voicemail and listen in. Or 4 to answer the call and record it. Four is too many things for me to remember, which is why I’m printing this out and putting it in my wallet.
Thanks for CoolGeex for creating this!

Hit 0 for hilarious voicemail to text translation.
lol win
Here’s an idea I don’t have time to pursue – get skinit.com to make “skins” that have this on, fitted to the various phones you might be using. Then you could just look at the back of the phone for a quick reminder on what options your have.
I’m the creator of this Quick Reference Guide and I really like your idea GuyWithDogs.
I think that I’ll get one for myself.
Decent idea, but the picture of the gay dog nullifies it.
seriously – if you have to have a card like that to use then the service doesn’t work. Google needs to read “the psychology of everyday things”
if the user can’t figure out the system the engineers and designers have failed.
WTF is the google voice app for if you have to go through menus like that? You guys at techcrunch are so upset the googlevoice app has not been approved for the iphone but you are psyched for this chart… makes no sense to me.
Clearly you don’t use Google Voice. These are the analog options. Key word… options. You don’t have to use them. OPTIONS: things other services don’t even provide.
My only complaint right now is that I can’t port my number (yet). Yay the day I can port!!
How can I know if the caller is calling my regular phone number directly or my GV number?
Excellent I love google voice I wish apple wakes up to the reality and approves it already I mean what is the hold up really ? Thanks for the tip techcrunch!
It is amazing how traditional companies sit on their lazy ass and watch Google eat their lunch. The least they could do is copy fast and put their own version out there.
I am going to be starting my use of G Voice starting on Friday (when i get my new phone). Have little experience with it so far, but looks like it’s got a lot of cool tools – not that I will use them all.
I am guessing the selections are not a visual system, which would be really cool, but I guess i will get used to it fast enough.
Michael, are you planning on giving your thoughts on the Droid at some point? I am particularly interested in what you think about its use as a full GVoice device.
Also curious if it was the kick ass device you alluded to in a previous post, or if that one is still yet to be seen?
#4 doesnt work for me and no response, of course, from GV or Mr.Walker.
And why are you the only person allowed to port? Are they freaked about regulatory agencies stepping in? For not its just youmail until we can PORT>
We updated the menus a few months ago to make the answering options simpler. When answering a call there are only two options: 1) to accept the call, or 2) to send to voicemail (you will automatically be able to hear the message being left).
You can record the call at any time by hitting 4 during the call (and hit 4 again to turn it off).
Hope this helps. – Craig
If you have any funny Google Voice transcriptions that you would like to share with the world, please add them to the new GV Screwups site at http://gvscrewups.blogspot.com. The best ones show up on the site!
I’ll have to check this out. I use my mobile most of the time.
If anyone has an extra google voice friend invite I really would love to get one. None of my current contacts seem to have one.
Thanks,
Kent
I really love this. “Answer and Record While in Call”. Google Voice is such a product that uses the computational ability of today’s PCs for a technology that’s hundreds of years old. Finally.
I applied for GV how long will it take to send me an invite to get an account?
