Ever since Twitter announced it is working on a new Lists feature a month ago, users and developers have been awaiting its broad rollout. Over the past few weeks, Twitter has been expanding the number of people in the Lists beta, but now it appears that a full rollout is under way.
As of yesterday, Twitter employee Nik Kallen reported that “25% of all users have Lists.” And then he Tweeted: “We’re releasing lists to even more people. Don’t get your panties in a bunch, Twitter.”
Judging from the what we are hearing from tapped-in Twitter developers, the buzz on Twitter itself, and our tip box, a full rollout is under way and is expected to be completed either today or tomorrow. (Remember, this is Twitter, so there are no guarantees).
Why is everyone so excited about these Lists? Finally, you will be able to create groups of people you follow on Twitter. So if there are 10 or 20 people who consistently deliver good Tweets, you can separate them out from the rest of your stream and just listen to them. Or you can create lists by topic, people you actually know versus people you only know via Twitter, or any other category. And the cool thing about these Lists is that once somebody makes a good list, other people can follow that entire list, which makes it much easier to get started on Twitter. Because finding interesting people to follow is actually a lot of work.
Has Lists been turned on for you yet?
Update: And like that, they’re gone.

There was a ‘blip’ on my twitter account yesterday – which lasted for a second.
It appeared permanently this morning… and I _LOVE_ them! VERY COOL feature!
Got mine yesterday
I have lists activated today not a bad idea at all
Maybe people are excited because Twitter actually released something.
i do have it frm long time back
Have not. But definitely will get value out of the lists feature
I have been watching for Twitter releases such as this, when Twitter begins offering features that compete with 3rd party developers’ offerings.
It will be interesting to watch these scenarios going forward.
In the meantime, still waiting for lists here.
Am I missing something here? The “lists” feature has been available on TweetDeck for over a year. It’s called “groups”.
So do Twitter lists appear on the profile page?
yes, you get a big message up top
Ya I got mine yesterday. Its very useless though IMO since I don’t follow tons of people.
I got it yesterday. I think lists will prove to be really useful eventually, but not until Tweetie and Tweetdeck supports them since I rarely go to twitter.com.
So I have got another feature to work to add to my Twitter site
+1. Me too in 2010. Also Exclusion Lists can’t be far behind.
The account I set up for my dog got lists yesterday and I’m still waiting. Not too happy about that.
I got the ‘lists’ feature in my other account, waiting to have it in my @socialapp account soon so I can filter users by 1) Companies & 2) People at the least ….
Do the appear naturally or is there a need to change settings?
I received Twitter Lists last week and created/followed several that were available. I have resisted getting too involved with the creation process as eventually there will be a source that creates a source of Lists for everything Apple, Google, Microsoft, cats etc
Twitter is making Twitter more like Facebook and Facebook is making Facebook more like Twitter
exactly
No, I don’t have any Twitter List invitation yet. How can I become a beta user of it? And why the Google Wave strategy? Isn’t it better to launch a full and complete product than a beta and incomplete one?
The thing I love is that I don’t have to actually follow people when I add them to my own lists. There are a lot of interesting lists already, but I don’t want to follow the members of the list, just the list. That is possible. Do have some suggestions about the list function , see what I wrote to Twitter here:

Just finished my list of actual Google employees, not the usual corporate product accounts, but real people, even 20+ with only 100 followers
Check: http://twitter....oogle-employees
Yup. Got it. Pretty handy for me- sorting tweets into ‘genres’. Tech news, music news, friends, musicians, celebs, etc…
I don’t need a list or any more lists. I just want to follow people and tweet stuff.
I haz it!
Agreed “finding interesting people to follow is actually a lot of work”. Seems Twitter’s own search does not serve as well as the Twitter Match from http://urljar.com for this purpose.
I got mine. Thanks for the update gonna try them out now.
Nope, I ain’t got it, and I was an early Twitter user – got plenty of followers, post every day, etc. Must be random
Not sure I’d use it anyway though..
When will tweety on iPhone support lists?
Twitter lists musts be getting people’s panties in a bunch because my office has been swamped
As a long-time Twitter user, I find the way they roll out new features incredibly frustrating. Whether it’s search on the home page, lists, or, eventually, the new retweet feature, they release to the select few first then randomly to the masses.
Why not let people sign up for beta access like every other web service?
People like me are interested in the features and will provide valuable feedback. AND, it will lessen the frustration of users who have to incessantly hear about these great features with NO COMMENT on when we’ll receive them.
My account got lists yesterday, and I immediately made our comprehensive politicial Twitter list public. You can follow all US elected officials in one list, or one at a time through our app.
I’m interesting in seeing Brizzly utilize this. I’m hoping that it’s not uni-directional updating, though.
Got mine and now I am interested in Twitter again because of the efficiency increase.
and now the lists have disappeared from my page….typical
they’rrrrrre baaaaack…too funny
Got the Lists and LOVE the feature!
No lists yet…. too bad… I guess cos I’m not a US user..
I have lists, no, I haven’t got lists, I have lists. It’s a bit confusing…. I have lists, and two minutes later I don’t have lists. Well, I seem to have been able to create one: http://twitter.com/pixum/pixum
I got Lists this morning local time, but it suddenly disappeared a few hours ago… :sigh:
And just as suddenly it reappeared for me /:)
Great idea…this should be helpful and something that I was wondering about awhile back. That said, we haven’t seen anything yet.
Love the feature, but hate that you can only have 20 lists. I am guessing that people will be able to have move than 20 lists with a monthly paid for version of Twitter yet to be rolled out..
Got it, will write about it soon.
Still waiting.
I’m still waiting. I have a lot of people I like to follow but with very different interests. Looking forward to keeping them in lists.
I got List in my personal twitter 3 days ago and on my blog’s today. I did a couple of lists and now they are all gone
Was it all a dream?
We are *trying* to use Twitter Lists in an innovative way by creating a Real-Time Community for the most active people on StuckInCustoms.com (photography, travel, fun). We all created it together and it has potential:
1) Make a list of people in your community like ours: http://twitter....stoms-community
2) Add those people to a column in TweetDeck (is there an automated way to do this yet?)
3) And then there is a live channel of community activity streaming by.
Ahh sorry here is a better link to the members in the community : http://twitter....mmunity/members
I think this is smart (and all communities should do this) because:
1) It lets all members of the community follow EACH OTHER – since there is a real wealth of knowledge, cleverness, and fun.
2) It gives new members of the community, and new users of Twitter an easy way to go add a bunch of people to follow.
About time. I guess you can call Twitter a social network now. Great feature!
Yes. And I am excited.
I don’t like lists. The existing flat system enables discovery & serendipity.
Giving the thing structure removes this -> “I have this list for subject x, this one for y”, etc…
I got mine a few days before it rolled out for everyone.
sure, i still have to find the usefulness of it on twitter.
