comScore Acquires Latin American Web Measurement Company Certifica
by Leena Rao on October 29, 2009

Web measurement company comScore, has acquired Certifica, a similar web measurement company based in Latin America. ComScore says the acquisition will help buid its presence in Latin America. ComScore did not disclose the terms of the acquisition.

Based in Santiago, Chile, Certifica was founded in 2000 and publishes analytics and statistics on Internet usage in Latin America. The sites measured by Certifica will be available for inclusion (on an opt-in basis) in comScore’s Media Metrix 360 measurement product, which combines panel-based audience measurement data and Web site analytics data to provide a more comprehensive view of activity.

ComScore also acquired mobile analytics company M:Metrics in 2008 to broaden its measurement of the mobile web.

  • Oh my, my, oh hell yes, Comscore put on your party dress.

  • How the hell does comscore make money?

    • We charge large media companies and ad agencies lots of money to use our data which gives them insight into audiences of online communities.

Unfortunately we didn’t realize the internet has a long tail and we use panels that account for the emerging long tail of the internet. This coupled with the fact that our panels don’t have or under-count people who use Saffari, Chrome, and Firefox pretty much makes our data worthless although nobody has the balls to move away from us as the standard.

What we’re really good at is measuring top ten web properties for certain content niches. Those top ten web properties pay us and we’re able to thumb our nose at the idea of directly measuring data and keeping the ad dollars flowing to major media companies and not up and coming web properties.

We also do some seal clubbing on the side and are developing some new forms of spyware but that’s on the roadmap and you didn’t hear it from me.

    • they probably do market research for big online companies

  • i love comscore

  • How much were the Chileans paid?
