Over the weekend we wrote about Bump Technologies’ recent funding round led by Sequoia Capital, which was revealed (perhaps accidentally) during Sequoia Partner Greg McAdoo’s presentation at Y Combinator’s Startup School. Bump declined to comment on the round on Saturday, but they’ve now confirmed that the round has just closed. They still wouldn’t confirm the exact amount of the round, but we’ve heard it’s over $3 million.
Bump did disclose the angel investors joining the round, and they’ve got some impressive names on board:
Ram Shriram (Sherpalo Ventures; founding board member at Google)
Ron Conway (SV Angel LLC)
Joshua Schachter (founder, Delicious)
Aydin Senkut (Felicis Ventures)
Bump CEO David Lieb says that the company plans to use the financing to extend Bump beyond the iPhone (I suspect we’ll see an Android version), and to expand the team.

next product from them? “and grind”
Do you guys think we can get some investors for http://www.anonboard.com ? We’re at the forefront of the realtime web!
I find it hard to see how this feature based app becomes a sustainable, profitable business. Who knows, maybe they’ll ride the Arrington Swine flu fist bump wave to success. Who knows?
I think they’ll try to turn it into a linkedin + lead gen.
There’s an android job post on their website so I think the android version is a safe bet.
They are working on android but also looking for license agreements with hardware firms like Nokia and motorola.
Knowing one of the co-founders personally (Jake Mintz), I’m sure that this venture will do just great in the future. Congrats on the funding!
i am surprised to see the names of the investors… are they just about making a quick buck or about finding innovative technology that changes the world… i just fail to understand how investors like these would be remotely interested in things like bump… wtf…
Bump is actually kind of awesome. I hope it takes off and becomes mainstream enough to replace handshakes.
Bringin’ the pound back in all its glory. Some of my friends in Etobicoke would probably do this at clubs, hahha, kidding
To the naysayers: If you think that all Bump will do is exchange contact info between iPhones, then you may also think that all Google does is provide web search results.
However, if you can strategically think through how a business can grow from concept to company with multiple business lines based on a core technology/platform, then I believe you’ll see a multitude of possibilities.
Kudos to the Bump team!
Bets are being made in a world of device-dependent and device-agnostic easy transfer of contact and other info ( http://www.doyoupoken.com ; http://www.mynameise.com ; http://www.mingle360.com ; https://www.dubmenow.com/ ; http://www.contxts.com/; and etc )
Kudos to the Bump team. This is just the beginning, and they’ve taken a great leap forward with Sequoia.
are there any deals ron “spray and pray” conway does not invest in?
yea, yours
For $3M you can build the next Google. Are silicon valley VC’s stoned, startup owners magicians in pitching or they are both laundering mafia money? What exactly is the $3M value for a script that does network DB record copies? Because this is what it is in principal.
