It’s inevitable: With Facebook change, comes Facebook backlash.
Today’s introduction of the new-style News Feed on Facebook has been garnering quite a bit of positive buzz. But this is Facebook we’re talking about. Anytime they change anything, the backlash starts quickly. Sometime’s it’s justified, but quite often it’s users overreacting from the natural human feeling to dislike change.
Not surprisingly, there are already plenty of Facebook groups against new changes. But hands down the best is “I AUTOMATICALLY HATE THE NEW FACEBOOK HOME PAGE,” which of course, pokes fun at what I’m talking about. But the best part? Facebook employees like Ivan Kirigin and Ari Steinberg have already joined it. More notable, so has Mark Zuckerberg.
Here’s the group’s description:
I HATE CHANGE AND EVERYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH IT
I WANT EVERYTHING TO REMAIN STATIC THROUGHOUT MY ENTIRE LIFE
I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I WANT FROM THINGS I CANNOT CONTROL
BY LOGICAL DEDUCTION I AUTOMATICALLY OPPOSE THE NEW FACEBOOK STREAMING HOME PAGE
IF I HAVE TO EXPLAIN THIS GROUP IT IS NO LONGER FUNNY
It would seem that the group is hardly new, one news post is from March of this year. But newly acquired employee Paul Buchheit shared a nice little screenshot on FriendFeed (his service which Facebook bought) today revealing Zuckerberg and company joining it.
The group has some 3,000+ members. Some don’t seem to understand that it’s a joke. Brilliant.

I would like Google’s Marissa Mayer to back that font up
let us see just how far the techcrunch bump goes …
Wait I will make total number of members to 3001
I automatically hate anything that MG Siegler posts and fear his TechCrunch power.
as long as the fear is there, i’m fine with that.
I too hate those who do sustained and prolonged hate campaign. hate-ms and hate-sexist MG.
I usually like the changes, but seriously, who thinks we give a crap about who our friends have friended? Probably 99% of the time we don’t have a clue who those people are.. what a waste of space. I wish they’d work on making the current site less of a buggy mess instead of wasting time on stuff like this. Or at least change something that adds usefulness to the site. Boo, hiss.
haha i like that mocking group
I agree with Ameya. I’m interested when friends change their status messages, but when they say they like something or friend someone I never heard of? Not so much. In fact, not at all.
Give a shoutout to the new facebook home page and vote for your preferred feed, News Feed or Live Feed: http://www.dipo...php?poll_id=577
That is pretty funny that people just jump on the bandwagon.
I am not a big fan of the changes just because I look at (what was) the news feed to find out what everyone is doing and I do not necessarily like that Facebook is now trying to tell me which friends I should be paying more attention to in the news feed. I’ll stick to the ‘live feed’ and decide for myself who gets my attention.
is it just me, or does my homepage, look the same, or possiby i’ve had this homepage for a long time and just never noticed. I still don’t see how the live feed is different from news feed, but oh well
Thats deep thought:)
If I wanted to know what everyone was doing at every freaking min…..wait isn’t that twitter…. who cares how friends who….. I don’t know them….. My question is, when are they gonna fix it!
What?
i hate it i have facebook and now they changed it i cant even get on line on face book
please facebook fix my home page so i can use facebook again
i facebook junkie
this is the real serious group we all should join.. http://www.face...83288426?ref=nf
not that group that just simply mislead the title huh
pretty funny!
You know what? I don’t automatically hate the new Facebook page. I hate Facebook pages that remove features and rearrange content to no additional utility at all.
The old way of doing things was fantastic. I had the illusion of controlling what sort of stories interested me, I could reliably see the friends I wanted to, and especially when they did otherwise menial things like updating their profile or adding photos, and the content was front and center. The new Facebook was the death of all that, and this latest revision hasn’t really changed anything.
Doing things like burying important information like birthdays and splitting the notifications and pokes/birthdays is vexxing at best and idiotic in reality. The highlights column has not once, ever, shown me anything I could possibly care about, and usually populates with people I’ve otherwise muted on my feed. Facebook no longer tells me when my friends update their profile at all, so things like quotes, movies, music, and interests are marginalized since that stuff is buried on a tab no one ever thinks to look at anyway.
This has been two steps backwards since the last big release and it’s frustrating since they seem to keep trying to pare down to hit the Twitter level of asceticism, features-wise. And it’s annoying as fuck.
this is pretty funny….but seriously, they should change it back to the way it was…it sucks!
Ah yes: it’s the old marginalization-and-dismissal-of-legitimate-criticism-by-resort-to-the-”resistant to change”-trope trick. So they introduce something that many users don’t see as an improvement, then insult the people who have the nerve not to pretend that the sh*t sandwich they’re being fed tastes like cotton candy. Great user relations, guys — remind me why I keep logging on to your site again?
Facebook didnt make it. some users made it to poke fun at the complainers.
Sadly, much of the “attention” this group is getting is from people who don’t realize it’s satirical. Just look at the posts on the group wall. =)
Hm, well the 3 facebook employees you mentioned are no longer members of the group, by the looks.
I’d like to know where the heck I can find my external Facebook stream and news feed URLs. I haven’t been able to find anything to date in Facebook’s (poor) help and support pages. Can this even be done? Can one publish one’s own Facebook status updates and news feed items using either RSS or Atom syndication technologies? Or, does one have to build their own API and utilize Facebook Connect? If so, that sucks.
Cheers,
Doug
I’m not liking this already! I’m having major problems logging in, problems finding anything that resembled my old facebook page, all of my friends have just vanished AND I’m blocked for sending any emails because my email page kept giving me error status so now facebook thinks I’m harassing my friends! Geeeze! Life is hard enough….put it back the way it was!!
i HATE THE NEW FACEBOOK!: Join this new group and contact facebook directly and tell them how you feel about this terrible change. http://www.face...mp;ref=nfPlease send this to all of your friends
Fix Facebook so I can talk to my daughter & family
