Today, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile Dev team released a humorous video giving a sneak peek inside the Microsoft Apps Lab. Here, you get a behind-the-scenes look at a few of the apps Microsoft dreamed up for its new Windows Marketplace, but were forced to reject for various reasons ranging from stupidity to lawsuits to physical pain.
The video is fairly amusing, but mostly because it seems like the undertone here is Microsoft prodding Apple’s App Store for both its draconian app approval process and the number of ridiculous apps in the store. This follows Verizon’s newest ad which takes on the iPhone head-on, while teasing about its new Droid device.
The video also features an virtual handshake app called the “Germaphobe” which, Mike would love!

Hey, the mustache app is actually kinda funny.
I’d buy it for sure haha
Germaphobe = Techcrunch bait..
I feel like I would buy the virtual mustache app.
Wow – that’s a weak attempt at humor by Microsoft.
Guess you can’t buy “funny”.
Or a sense of humour it seems.
lmao… Good one Mark.
This just goes to show Microsoft isn’t innovative any more. The video is lame. Its like I just got on a ride at Disney World and I’m watching the orientation video. Anyone been on Test Track at Epcot? Boring… They keep chasing Apple, rebutting the pokes and prods, but never really innovating in their marketing. They need to reach into their coffers and shell out for some better creative talent.
if only microsoft were so lucky and could hire an awesome commenter like you they might be better off.
Ta….dont be a dirt bag,….this is lousy production value and a waste of money.
MS – PUT MONEY INTO R&D or use Apple’s advertising firm….
Weak.

funny, cuz there are some stupid, stupid apps out there..
I hate this…
Better: the BALLmer Buster and iEnvy. (http://retwt.me/Drdb)
There is someone right now developing a virtual mustache app mark my words.
crappâ„¢
Good thing you appended (Humor) to the post title, I wouldn’t of guessed otherwise… What demographic would find it remotely funny?
those that get laid occasionally
Windows Mobile = not so cool.
These guys (Microsoft) get lame and lamer by the minute. They need to just chill…relax…crawl under a rock…something
Microsoft just doesn’t get it, again. Anyone considering a non-Apple smartphone will be looking for product differentiators. This video seems to say 1) the folks behind Windows Marketplace will reject apps and 2) they’ll try reject more apps than Apple. Maybe straightlaced corporate dorks will want a platform that won’t let them install joke apps, but I think a much bigger concern is the perception — no, make that the *fact*– that Apple rejects apps that people want. This video suggests MSFT would, if anything, be more overbearing. This video just give me more reason not to consider WinMo phones. Nice.
Huh….. You said a lot, but nobody understands what you are trying to say…
Peter get off that crack
I like fun but if you get text messages or videos that can detect viruses as continenen here we see a post by virus
Wether you like it or not, you know this video is going to be viral soon enough, face it.
Who says Mac fans have a sense of humour?
Oh right. Nobody.
humor and religion do not go hand in hand.
Goddamn. The zealotry of the Steve Job’s fan club would make Al Qaeda blush. I’m pretty sure Apple is doing just fine without an online legion of humorless socialtards being hypercritical of everything non-Apple.
I like my iPhone. I don’t like a lot of what Apple does. Is it possible to own something without anthropomorphizing some balls on to it for incessant fondling? Yes!
Well said sir! I don’t get why these Apple fanboys spend most of their time looking at Microsoft related stuff just so they can criticise it. Do they not have anything better to do other than, of course trying to force various Apple products up their tight dry arseholes?
People who find this funny are EXACTLY Microsoft’s target demographic…
talk about pavlovian! comments from google/mac techcrunch lovers are guaranteed to be anti-ms (not funny, not innovative, whatever).
hope they recognize their own brainwashing…
Too bad WinMo doesn’t have an app that makes fart noises – now that would be funny!
I actually think that this is a pretty good ad. Microsoft is obviously not taking itself seriously, which has the “hey we’re buddies” effect.
It seems to be modeled after the Rejected Cartoons video (http://www.yout...h?v=MuOvqeABHvQ)
I think people are over reacting here, its just a little viral video and nothing more.
there are more disappointing things to talk about today
Lets see, I was hoping Apple would bring 4 core Intel i7 power to the Macbook pro line or maybe Blue Ray for those of us that can think for our selves and want such a feature.
Hey at least their giving us a refreshed and still to expensive Macbook In Freaking White again because God knows black would just hurt some of us.
Now I like the Multi touch mouse, that was the best thing from Apples announcement today.
I guess I’ll wait to see what Dell has to announce in 2 days.
I think we should start a Steve Jobs is a racist rumour. What’s with all the white stuff? Maybe he loves his coke? That’s another good rumour, Steve Jobs is a coke dealer! The new mouse is actually made from coke and they bring them in from Columbia. Sneaky bastards! I bet it’s top quality shot too. Anyone tried melting down the new mouse yet?
I want the “Enabler” for the iPhone
Let’s hope they let in 85K apps.
LOL!
Gates and Co have real down to nerd class.
Wonder if MG still thinks Balmer is the Anti-Christ :-/
Any developer planning to waste time on yet another piece of crap running the latest hobbled nightmare from Microsoft?
*Sound of crickets chirping*
lol… couple of D-bags.
Wow. Bad corporate video at it’s worst. Who was the creative genius behind this turd?
Funny. Period. ROTF? No. A smile, a soft chuckle and nod of agreement? Yes.
Uh, Microsoft has the same policies as Apple’s Store; what’s your point?
