The much anticipated and hyped Rock Band for iPhone and iPod Touch is out! We first scooped the news of the launch of the app a few weeks ago. Shortly afterwards, Rock Band for the iPhone/iPod touch was officially announced by Electronic Arts. The app costs $9.99 and can be found here.
The game features a multi-player mode (via Bluetooth), allowing up to 4 players to rock out on the go. While you can also play via single-player mode, you can use the integrated Facebook Connect to invite your friends to join in.
Rock Band for iPhone allows players to choose between vocals, drums, bass, or guitar. The game involves tapping the screen on the correct notes and the vocals are also performed through tapping (as opposed to singing). The app features 20 tracks from a varied list of artists and musicians (see the song list below). The app has premium content that can be purchased via an in-game store. Rock Band also includes an in-game message center to check your band’s status and will have push notifications when friends invite you to rock out.
In an earlier post, we speculated the impact of Rock Band’s app on Tapulous with their immensely popular Tap Tap Revenge series. Tap Tap Revenge already has a massive following on the platform, but it’s very similar to Rock Band. Tapulous just launched Tap Tap Revenge 3, which focused on premium content through In-App Purchase, similar to Rock Band.

$9.99 might as well be $50.
Haha.
Well, most games of this nature are $9.99, so it’s not a bad price.
But, there are no search engine applications for $50, so Wolfram|Alpha is a rip off.
This app is SOOOOO much more fun than Wolfman.
So a wider audience = cheaper to cater for them. People who need to make calculations like what wolfram offers I’m sure are more than willing to pay for it.
Photoshop? Flash?
Makes sense, Wolfram Alpha isn’t made for fun.
ten bucks tho? ugh
Looks kind of easy, only 4 buttons and I imagine it can only accept input from 2 presses max at a time.
I bet it’s fun but I don’t know if I’d pay $10 for it.
Countdown until I see someone playing it without headphones…
What makes you think it can only accept input from 2 fingers at a time? This is a fully multi-touch device. It can probably register all 10 of your fingers if there was a use for that.
Oh my God, $10?!? What are people thinking making products that people have to pay for? Seriously, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it and shut up, not everything is for free.
wow, I love this game.
Jailbreaking (10min)
Downloading/Installing Installous (3min)
Realizing dev teams will never make their programs unhackable (Priceless)
Realizing you’re shafting the entire development community, and contributing to a downward spiral in the App Store ecosystem (even more priceless)
Seriously. Support the developers (even though it’s EA). That includes other apps/developers. Your support is the only reason people continue to make apps for the platform.
You can support the developers on Cydia too you know. It’s not all free/pirated material.
I’ve payed for a few apps on Cydia, myself. I love iFile, and the GBA emulator from ZODTTD is nice to have if you have a faster processor, unlike my poor first gen iPod Touch.
direct appsto.re URL for this most likely awesome game: http://appsto.re/RockBand
The article includes the official AppStore link… we don’t need your affiliate marketing advertisement link as well.
Not a bad app – just got it – first impression: load times – but it is a beefy app with lots of juicy features. Also – id suggest restarting after install. There are still some bugs, facebook crashed the app. The song simple man by lynard skynard didn’t play music first (hince the restart), but besides that it was still a great app. Just played cherub rock on medium, and there are so few downloads i just placed in the top 10 with an 88%.
All in all – great app EA.
I wonder what Tapulious thinks of this? Its kinda hard to get mad at someone who ripped you off, when you ripped them off. Hmmm…
“I wonder what Tapulious thinks of this?”
they think they’re dead, and they’re right
unless the company has another big deal up its sleeve for pronto release, its bye-bye birdy
I don’t think they are dead. I do, however, think that they may need to re-kindle their fire. Bart is a very smart man, he will come with something else im sure. But, I wouldn’t count them out just yet.
but again – kudos EA. :)
Whoopee.
it’ll be a #1 hit before Tuesday. It’ll make a ton of money. People love Rock Band and anything affiliated with it.
This game is very fascinating and fun. My friends around me are also passionate on that. And the price also very reasonable for me.
The journey to work will never be the same again..
Not available for all iTunes store countries for some reason
I’m sure I can speak for other developers when I say I wish more consumers understood what went into developing an application, especially one of this scale. $10 is a STEAL for the amount of time and money the developer put into this application.
Too many people complain about $2 or $3 for an app… that’s less than the cost of 1 gallon of gas in the US.
I agree, ten bucks is cheap.
I can’t understand the idea of why Rockband on a phone would be any fun, and I have two sets of the plastic instruments myself…
oh well, to each his own I guess.
I love the game, this will be a sure hit!
i hope they bring out some more songs, the only one i like from that list is “sabotage” by the beastie boys!
I dont know if I could pay $10 for a game on my phone, Rock band is cool and all but maybe not so much on the phone.
Very nice app. Foo Fighters “Everlong” is my favorite.
Cool app. It will get lots of hits if it is free (or cost one buck)… :)
The game is very well designed, but the music store is seriously empty. Come on, EA, fill it up ASAP. Also, it is a shame that you can multiplay only through Bluetooth.
They have been #1 top grossing app almost from the day they shipped, and they are now #6 top selling. I bet that they will be #1 within a week.
I am thinking that they could be lowering the price to $4.99 as soon as they have a wide choice of additional tracks to purchase in-app. That is where the money is, I would think.
