DanceJam, a dance video startup founded by MC Hammer, Geoffrey Arone and Anthony Young in April 2007, will soon be acquired by Purevideo Networks, we’ve heard from multiple sources. Note: I am a small stockholder in DanceJam, although the company won’t comment to me about this at all.
We don’t know the purchase price or other terms of the deal. Both companies are privately funded.
Earlier this year Purevideo Networks also acquired Sportnet, a site that controls a number of popular topical video sites.
DanceJam launched in November 2007 and has raised $4.5 million in venture capital.

Yeah right, like you really know nothing…
the company did not return my request for comment.
Michael, out of respect for the buyer, I just wanted to wait until we had a chance to speak. That said, I would love to do a guest post about why we chose this course even thought we had 18 months of cash still in the bank.
Founder/Investor communication at its finest.
what was MC’s cut?
let him do the guest spot
Its well known that Geoffrey and Michael are very close pals, well before Michael was rich and famous. I would have rather you said you knew, Mike, rather than lie.
Who lied? I am indeed very good friends with Michael, but that does not mean that I am going to return his calls and disclose information about a transaction against the will of the acquirer and/or my investors. Also, kind of ironic that you make false accusations/assumptions about disclosure while logged in anonymously.
guy, get over yourself.
That comment was directed at Mike, not you – read the punctuation. I don’t think anyone’s buying Mike’s “I know nothing” story or his disclosure.
That said, Geoffrey, where’s the guest post?
what’s so special about this site?
Nothing. Unless you count MC Hammer.
Hammer is rich , again
A sympathy deal, perhaps? After all, who can stand watching ex-stars like MC Hammer do those Cash4Gold commercials?
wow… dancejam which has nothing but videos and a social aspect got 4.5mm in funding? now got sold, and probably for a profit for the VC’s. Got start my new company up asap then.
PureVideo raised 8.5 mill; DanceJam $4.5. Any idea what the purchase price was?
please hammer, don’t hurt em
I will sleep better knowing Dancejam has secured safe haven
This sale probably got done at a valuation of $3M and was paid in stock (WAG guess). Geoffrey, am I right?
Guys, something wrong with your CSS files… The page looks weird…
This is a great half story
>>What’s so special about that site?
It’s MC Hammer’s
Stop! Collaborate and listen, ice is back with a brand new… oh wrong tune!
Hammer Time!
It’s good to see he didn’t just fizzle out and die!
I think its great that there was a VC/Angel-funded effort made to bring urban culture to the web.
That’s what makes this newsworthy.
good for DanceJam
what are they buying? this site has about 100,000 unique visitors per month. I’m thinking Hammer got bored and they were gonna shut this down. why would anyone buy a site like this? it can be easily duplicated.
I want a chinese version for chinese reader.
