Woopra Opens Its Doors For Live Web Analytics
by Daniel Brusilovsky on October 12, 2009

Woopra, the impressive live tracking and analytics service, today announced that they are opening their doors for all new signups. Until today, new users had to be approved if they didn’t have an invite code.

Sure, there are a lot of analytics alternatives, so what makes Woopra so special? Real Time. It’s the big trend this year, and Woopra certainly delivers. Woopra is similar to Google Analytics but provides real time stats and a number of additional features, such as the ability to chat real time with visitors to the site. (See also, Chartbeat and our coverage).

Woopra first became public when Cali Lewis of GeekBrief.TV spoke with John Pozadzides, CEO of iFusion Labs, the parent company of Woopra at WordCamp Dallas in September 2008.

With today’s public launch of Woopra, one of the biggest changes is the pricing. Until now, Woopra has been free for all users. Coming with the public launch is paid accounts. All current users are getting moved to the free account (pageviews limit: 250,000), with an option to upgrade to a premium account. Also, Woopra is supporting SSL, making SSL available to all paying clients. One of the big requests that users have requested is that Woopra support subdomains as well, and this is also being announced. You can find the full list of plans for Woopra here.

  • Looks like a KILLER tool….but google is a FREE service…why would one prefer to this one…

  • 6 minute video bored me

  • If you’ve gotta know now, they you pay… For the development projects we are working on (mostly community and informational sites) tomorrow is good enough.

What happened yesterday is just as actionable in terms of long term trends, but if you are “selling flowers”, or some perishable non-renewable items, then this is the only way to go…

  • Too bad their registration process is dying…

First 500 error with long JSP debug then my confirmation code is invalid… invalid… invalid.

    • I’m sorry that several of you experienced problems with the sign up process. We didn’t have these reports from our existing users as they were not using that part of the system, plus we had many registrations that were coming in, so didn’t notice any abnormalities. However, after seeing the comments we investigated and found a limit in our database that was set incorrectly.

I’m told that the process has now been repaired, and registration should complete successfully now. If anyone has other problems, please feel free to ping me on twitter @johnpoz and I’ll take care of you personally.

By the way, thanks to Daniel and TechCrunch for the very kind coverage.

      Cheers,

      John P.

  • Can’t open an account, server errors on confirmation click from email, then “invalid registration code”.

    Uh.

  • We deployed Woopra last winter (I think Cali Lewis was touting it) and it worked really well. It’s a good compliment to Google Analytics and some of the other tools we use.

The chat tool kinda creeped our visitors out. They’re not seeming to be used to that kind of interruption and level of immediate engagement ‘on site’. It’s one step beyond the Live Chat buttons on many sites. Give it time though and it will be the new norm.

  • This video seems weird.

  • Wow, they’ve got some kinks to work out. If they can’t even get the server for their front end to stay error free while I’m simply signing up, I don’t know that I would like to add their code to my sites.

  • Google Analytics is free but it doesn’t log everything that may be of interest to a site owner. StatCounter, Clicky, and Woopra all have their own advantages. You’ll also find that, because many of them use different methods to count visitors, the traffic stats will differ as much as 10-15% between service providers.

  • Um, registration, what? https://www.woo...bers/signup.jsp
That being said, I’ll watch the video and hope they read these comments to fix their act up a bit.

  • Actually, the reg. error is only when Captcha fails to load first. They have no “null” error handling. Wait for it, then try registering. QA fail. Works if you wait though.

  • Been using chartbeat for awhile now and it’s much better than woopra. And it runs in browser — screw download and install apps

  • woopra is finally coming out of beta yet all of these folks are having sign up issues. ouch. maybe they should stay in beta for a bit longer….

  • Congrats to Woopra for finally launching! It’s been a long 18 months since they initially released their beta, and I bet they’re excited to finally bring in some cash :)

Another real time analytics service to consider is Clicky, which is currently tracking over 140,000 sites. Every service has its advantages over another. Clicky’s premium service is quite a bit more affordable, for one thing. http://getclicky.com

  • Here, at ResumeBucket.com we have been using Woopra for just about 7 months. Been a huge fan of the site. Allows you to export metrics, set alerts, and track down many details.

I plan on using Woopra for a while, and recommending it to many in the performance marketing vertical.

    Thanks Woopra team

  • Why this video? There a some others which show what the product is about rather than showing how to upgrade to a paid plan / unnessecary outtakes.

  • Is it just me or does the logo look like it has a bra in it? Coupled with the name itself that looks a bit like ‘Woobra’ if you just glance at it.

    Is it just me???

  • Today i just tried to signup, but the confirm confirmation link/code u send is not working to make my account active. anyone from technical team could check fix this bug asap, so that let me try this Analytics tool once.

  • Hmm. Registration failed (had to do it twice) and I still need an invitation code to be able to add a website.

The logo looks like the T-1000 version of the Drupal drop.

  • Want to know the names of the companies visiting your website in real-time?

  • Sorry guys, I tried a register a couple of times and just got error after error.

  • I guess I’ll have to pass on this for now. Too many negative feedbacks yet the price is set so high.

  • Thanks everyone for the comments. We’re doing our best at Woopra to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

I want to thank you all on behalf of our team for reporting the signup glitch. This issue is now fixed and all affected users will receive an email from me with an Invitation Code for you to use or to share with friends.

Finally, thanks Daniel for the post.

    Best,
    Elie

  • Thats one of the worst videos i’ve seen in a long time, it’s so dull :|

  • Yet more javascript-based analytics, which can’t track direct downloads and bandwidth: blah.

It’s fine as a competitor to Google Analytics. However, any serious company relying on javascript and not using a server log-based tracking system is totally nuts or ignorant.

When will new companies get with the program and compete against software like Webtrends or whatever and offer something that *real companies* can use and rely on — but for less money? I still can’t fathom how Google Analytics destroyed Urchin and left in its wake a half-assed javascript system that doesn’t even give simple data like IP addresses. Talk about sitting on and crushing the potential for a cash cow… ridiculous.

    Anyone have recommendations?

    • The lack of good log parsing analytic apps is really sad.
The best free one I could find is awstats

I too am pretty surprised at how Google just kills Urchin, it was one of the best ones, even despite it being slightly pricey.

  • And how is this different from zazachat and the dozens of other live chat providers that already offer real-time reporting?

  • He was going about at a slow and boring pace ”DROOPY” was the first thing coming to mind.

He was funny though at the end of the video.
”I cant feel the love”, Me neither.

Droopy is funnier maybe he should pick it up starting with ”Hellowww fooksssh”.

  • I believe its already a better alternative than GA by the features like real time tracking.
