A couple weeks ago we did a preview of Tweetie 2, the next version of the iPhone Twitter client. To say there was a lot of interest in obtaining the app is an understatement. And now you can. Earlier today, Apple approved the app, and it just went live in the App Store.
You may not be able to find it through a search right now, but use this link to go directly to it.
As we noted originally, the app is $2.99 even if you bought the original Tweetie. This has been the source of some controversy, as some users (like former Who’s The Boss stars) don’t understand why this isn’t a free upgrade. But we feel the many upgrades in the new app warrant the price.
More importantly, it’s $3, you probably spend at least that on coffee everyday. And you’ve probably spent ten times that on fart apps.

And it’s just as awesome as promised.
Downloaded and it lives up to the hype
Eh, no lite version … I am just going to pass. Tired of developers not releasing a demo version. I don’t care if its only $3, I have been burnt a few times now.
It’s been overall the number 1 Twitter app on the iPhone for a year now, won many awards. What are of afraid of getting burnt by?
your getting burnt by your stubbornness…
you really are missing out. if you’re going to trust anyone without releasing a demo… it’s someone who used to work at apple.
So, why exactly didn’t they publish it under the same name? This way I’ve to enter all my credentials for several accounts again. Splendid idea, indeed!
Anything but that, oh no! I’m sorry dude, that must be rough for you.
On a non-sarcastic note, the app is amazing. Kills the old one, just wish it had true push so I could get rid of Boxcar. Can’t wait for location aware tweets and official @reply support.
So, so good…beautiful rendition of the twitter api
the real question is whether tweetie3 will also be another full priced app?
My guess is probably yes. I mean, if they can talk enough people into paying full price for every new version, then why not keep doing it?
I don’t get it – why is this better than TweetDeck? Why would I switch? Tweetdeck has grouping, Tweetie doesn’t. With TweetDeck I can actually see different tweets in different groups I create – otherwise I have one massive stream and end up missing a lot if I can only check it a few times a day.
Honestly – I’ve never used Tweetie, but with no group capabilities I don’t see why I ever would. Can anyone explain? TweetDeck is free, I assume with Tweetie being $3 that it should add significant value here free apps are lacking.
Thoughts?
I’ll give you one, Tweetie doesn’t crash like TweetDeck does.
TweetDeck on the desktop is awesome, on the iPhone not so much. In my experience the TweetDeck iPhone app crashed randomly and had weird updating count issues. Yea the group support is nice, but it’s not a deal breaker for me. I like my apps to be stable and I found TweetDeck on the iPhone to be one of the least stable Twitter apps.
See I’ve never had Tweetdeck crash. And I don’t think i could use Twitter without grouping. And I’m surprised how many people can.
Maybe I will give tweetie a try and see what all the fuss is about.
I’ll admit that I’ve had Tweetdeck crash on my iPhone, however, I have become much too fond of being able to use groups, retweet and email tweets.
Even if push had been made available in Tweetie2, I’m not certain it would have been worth $3.00 to me. I’m not away from a computer for long enough to make it that important.
Jesus Christ. If TweetDeck works well for you, then you shouldn’t switch. Different people use Twitter in different ways. Tweetie works well for me for how I use Twitter.
This is a problem with a lot of writers and commenters on TC and other places: you guys assume you’re normal while you’re actually atypical. It’s okay that someone prefers a Honda and another prefers a Toyota.
And Tweetie’s developer said he’ll be quick to support Twitter’s lists when that is turned on.
anyone know if the notifications option on a user’s page enables push or sms messages?
sms
from what i hear Push will possible be in an update when lists are supported through Twitter
Loved V1 and love V2 even more! Can’t wait for the Mac Desktop to reach V2 so I can sync.
I’m really impressed with Tweetie 2.0 and the features available are exceptional! Well worth the price although this will likely become the standard now!!
Does v2 still have the Dark theme?
Don’t miss the manual, there really is a lot to this thing, easily worth $3.

@mlapida push notifications would be nice, there must be some reason he hasn’t included them, it has everything else but a kitchen sink.
No push? really???? at least for mentions or DM, come on…
I got mine. Loving the app.
It’s currently the top Trending Topic. And it’s fair, the app is absolutely awesome.
The app is awesome. Im loving it.
This is great for the developer. At $3 a pop I bet he’s gonna make a killing on this. Well deserved in my opinion.
@sean808080 if its as good as 1 & 2 – why not. People will pay a few bucks for it.
looks like another winner for Tweetie. Switch between Tweetie & Twittelator Pro though. If I use the apps enough, I’ll pay for them. Lots of duds though
We developers hear that a lot: “If I use the apps enough, I’ll pay for them.”
Glad you’re one of the 1 in 233 pirates that pay for copies — “if they’re good enough.”
Major new .0 releases warrant a paid upgrade in the software world. When Tweetie 3.0 comes out I’ll pay for that as well.
If you feel it’s worth it, then go right ahead.
In 25 years of purchasing software (for any platform), I have never paid anything other than an upgrade price …. for an upgrade.
do you not play computer games then?
I just love how everyone thinks if you aren’t fond of repurchasing something after you’ve just bought it, you must be some sort of “lame” Starbucks latte drinking, fart joke loving idiot.
I purchased the original Tweetie. It didn’t impress me all that much. I ended up using Tweetdeck which I really like.
So, why the hell would I decide to pay (all over again) for another version of Tweetie that I probably won’t think all that much of either.
Is it that the uber-geeks think that we should all be in lock step with the throw-away society?
No, thank you. I’ll stick with Tweetdeck. It’s a great program, allows me to manage groups, and is certainly a better bargain.
I don’t think that it’s that you won’t pay for it if you don’t like it. At least that’s not me.
But IF YOU DO like it, why wouldn’t you pay for it? Thats what kills me, when someone is high over the moon for it, but gripes for 2 months that he burned $3 on it.
Either you like it enough to pay for it, or you don’t…. so don’t! haha.
I don’t think people are/should be grouping someone like you into that argument.
Need a live feed on purchases for tweetie 2 cuz these guys are getting rich! can that b done? Can devs pull data through an API from itunes?
He removed Ping.fm support it appears
It’s $3. Seriously, if you’re going to spaz over $3, that’s a little ridiculous.
Tweetie 2 is hands-down the best Twitter app, full stop. I don’t like apps that crash, and the thing is, if you want apps that work well and constantly evolve someone’s gotta get paid to do it (and they deserve it), and $3 is a pittance if you use something all the time. I’m very happy with my upgrade.
How does Tweetie 2 compare with Simply Tweet? I have been using Simply Tweet the past couple of months and am really enjoying it. Not sure I want to buy another Twitter app at this point unless it knocks the socks off of Simply Tweet.
I love it and gladly pay a small fee for it.
But where is my chat bubbles theme? I really liked it.
Is there anyway that we change the theme, as in Tweetie there was a dark theme available. Is this not available for Tweetie 2?
Bought it, love it, will buy tweetie 3 next year. But with that being said it’s not about money when it comes to the complainers. Apps like Simplytweet and Twittelator pro update every month for FREE and actually do give us drastic improvments unlike what Loren mentions on his blog. Twittelator and Twitterrific overhauled their apps before too and they never charged their existing customers.
I understand the author of tweetie wants to make his app a sustainable business and I do think he’s the only one that can get away with charging it more than once for now. There are currently no apps out there that can compete with tweet in terms of ease and UI. It’s just that good and no other competitors have gotten that formula right yet.
THANK YOU FOR DELETING MY REPLY PRICKS.
I guess freedom of speech is not something techcrunch believes in.
Hmm I was looking forward to this, whilst the UI has some polished features, it’s lacking an awful lot of features that some of the other clients have.
Wish I’d not bothered buying it now.
Just bought it and far do’s it is superb everything you could want.
