Dropbox, the easy to use file access manager which syncs your files across all your computers and the web, has introduced an iPhone application to make it even easier to access your files anywhere in the world. After almost 7 weeks of waiting, Apple has finally approved the application. With this new iPhone app, users will get access to all their Dropbox documents, PDF’s, pictures, videos and much more. Dropbox also introduced offline viewing in the iPhone app, with “Favorites.” If you add a file to your ‘Favorites’, they’ll be accessible at any time. To do so, just hit the star at the bottom of any file, and it’ll be added. Otherwise, your files stay in the cloud.
One of Dropbox’s core features is sharing your files and folders stored in the cloud with anyone else who has a Dropbox account, and the iPhone is no exception. Users can easily share their Dropbox files and folders from their iPhone to any other Dropbox user by putting in their email address, just like on the web. The app allows users to upload photos for 3G users, and videos if you have an iPhone 3GS.
What’s really cool about Dropbox’s iPhone app is that you can even stream music and movies from your Dropbox straight to your iPhone, without any noticeable delay. Dropbox’s app is also heavily integrated into Apple’s camera API with straight photo and video uploading available too.
Just a few days ago, Dropbox reached 2 million users. Dropbox was a finalist at the 2008 TechCrunch50 conference.

Dope shit.
werd!
7 weeks?!
Yes, it’s been a long wait.
I’ve been waiting weeks for this. w00t!
this is pretty slick
Gaahhhhhh it only works on 3.1!!!! Anyone with jailbroken iphones/ipods cannot download this!!!!
Agreed. Bummed to see this requires 3.1. Guess it will have to wait until the Dev Team says we’re good to go.
Ugh, doesn’t 3.1 break tethering? I really didn’t want to get rid of that safety net, but this is something I’ll use.
Yes, it breaks tethering. There a number of people crying out in the comments section over at DropBox, begging them to release a 3.0 version for that very reason.
my boys over at dropbox doin’ work! can’t wait to install the app.
I tried this product for the very first time yesterday. It is really cool and very useful. The file sharing and syncing features works seamlessly.
Me and my iPod Touch love the offline access feature. Fantastic improvement on what was in fact a pretty useable web-interface for the iPhone OS.
Hasn’t Sugarsync had most of this functionality for a while? (Yes)
Switched from SugarSync over to DropBox about a month ago and have not looked back.
Isn’t Sugarsync down most of the time? (Yes)
Dropbox seems to be down most of the time. My files do not sync anymore and complete folders were deleted. I moved to SugarSync already.
SugarSync already has had an iPhone app for more than a year! They also have BlackBerry, WinMo, and ANDROID. This is not really any news…why all this noise?
android..?
I also tried this product a few days ago (installed on both Win7 and Ubuntu). It’s awesome.
I use SugarSync and from what I can tell works like DropBox – with the free iphone app.
Not sure which is “Better” but I am really happy with SugarSync.
My only complaint is I wish the searching interface was better. I will check out DropBox to see if it has better search functionality.
this is a killer app. dropbox is a fantastic service and the iphone app is a great one as well. long delay by apple to get it done considering the box.net app has been there forever. congrats to the dropbox team
Yes, yes, yes! This is fantastic! I was just blogging about how much I like DropBox today. I’m pumped about this. Just downloaded it, and my favorite part so far is that it actually reads .pages files. That’s wonderful!
Kudos to the Dropbox team. Their service is pretty awesome and its great news to finally hear that they have a new iPhone app now for all the iDropboxers.
Dropbox is a really great service and this app adds quite a bit to it.
The photo/video bit is probably the coolest thing about it. You can snap a photo and literally less than 10 seconds later the photo is on your hard drive and in the cloud. Boom.
Apple should have done something like this using iDisk and the iPhone camera from day 1.
@Jim
iPhone 3.1 is jailbroken, son.

“This application requires the iPhone 3.1 Software Update”.
Oh well. Dev team hurry up on the 3G S.
SugarSync released their iPhone app more than a year ago. Even with an iPhone app Dropbox does not work for me. Having to manually move all my content into ONE folder is a showstopper. I am also a bit of a gadget nut and have iPhone and an Android phone. I love SugarSync
All your ‘content’ already IS in one folder… it’s called your root directory
It’s a shame that it took a year to build this app and it does not work on most of the iPhones…pretty incredible..
FilesAnywhere app has had link sharing for months and it already has way more – stream down music, fax from iphone, lots of good stuff.
Agreed. Yeah its nice. But it does not works on all iphones. That problem must be solved.
It’s awesome, thus users can view infinit information.
Great! I love drop box. I have it on 3 Macs a PC and now my iPhone. The service is great, ive never found it to be down and as I only use it to store the odd file or two its free me!
The Music streaming service sound cool as well!!
Nice work dropbox guys!! Much appriciated!
OS 3.1 on iPhone is necessary for Dropbox to install
null !
Just installed the iPhone app and registered for a 2GB account. The setup process is straight forward and easy to register!
I have been using it for a long time now .. its a really good website .. for sharing the documents .. its good if we can use it one our cell phones …
Best,
Daina
This is for 3.1 (or later) only. But, it is definitely worth to switch to 3.1 if necessary only to get Dropbox working. It is really an excellent app. Congratulations to the Dropbox team!
