I chatted with Kevin Rose backstage in between TechCrunch50 judging. For those who think he’s still the wacky Diggnation party boy, I want to point out he beat most of the TechCrunch staff to the conference this morning.
This video is longer than most of our behind-the-scenes glimpses, but we covered a lot of territory. Rose tells us the single most important product move Digg has made in the last year, whether his company is worried about the Twitter threat, what’s coming next for Digg, his favorite company that launched today (HINT: CitySourced founders may have a potential angel investor), and whether or not starting Pownce was a mistake.
Video is on the jump.

Kevin, What news with Crunchpad?
diggs = truth
digg is not like it used to be. It seems kind of boring now. I guess it has ran its course
Stop saying Hmmm, mmmm after every sentence of your interviewee!
hey kevin, thanks very much for supporting the conference for the third year in a row!
np lol.
Always seems like a cool guy.
It’s the money that makes him a cool guy!
Kevin is far and away the biggest douchebag I’ve seen on the Internet. Every single thing he does is ego stroking. All he wants to see is a higher Twitter follower count to make him feel proud of himself. He refers to himself as an “Internet celebrity”. Jesus.
Always good to hear Kevin speaking about startups…. Looking forward to the new Digg features…
I used to really like Digg, but it pretty much sucks now. They’ve really abandoned their original audience.
Digg doesn’t control the audience.
The audience is Digg.
Jesus Christ! You ask a question. Then SHUT UP. Let the dude answer into the mic.
Stop the “uhuuu” “uhuu” nonsense Sarah. Hella disturbing.
You will soon be asking him “what happened to DIGG”?
I love how Sarah manages to make every interview all about her.
Digg has been taken over by obamabots. You might as well just go to http://www.huffingtonpost.com it’s actually more bi-partisan.
I use the http://drudgereport.com for my internet news now. http://www.alexa.com/hoturls is also good.
Just RSS sites you like.
You’re a sad sad loser.
Kevin’s great.
Is he also likable in person? Because he comes across as a great guy thru the web (via diggnation, his twitter, etc.)
He’s one of the few interesting silicon valley entrepreneurs in the business imo. I hope, for his sake and ours’, that he has a lot of great ideas still on tap.
Twitter > Digg
Same stuff no work (digging)
Digg is so lame Kevin Rose doesn’t even use it http://digg.com...users/kevinrose He does use Twitter all the time though.
Did you even look at his profile page? He has almost 11k stories dugg and 4 in the 24 hours
*past 24 hours
Twitter > Digg
Basically, if you want to hear about the stories a day or two earlier, check out reddit, that’s what digg has turned into, power users copying reddit stories.
You mean Kevin convinced investors to give money to his then-girlfriend, and gave some to herself, to build a me-too clone of Twitter, and it failed? Sort of like the failure of Mixtt?
Call me crazy., but maybe, just maybe, the best investment strategy is not to back companies solely because they are run by attractive women who have caught the attention of social media figureheads like Kevin Rose or Michael Arrington?
I’ve been using Digg a lot lately, I think it has one of the best rating systems around, especially for commenting. It helps you find useful stuff in the comments.
Too, politically liberal for me.
You are quite possibly the most annoying woman alive.
Still.
Digg’s still an amazing source for information, features in the works sounds fun
