We grabbed Google’s Marissa Mayer backstage just after her launch of Fast Flip. Michael asked her about that name change, Google’s on going innovation with news online, and whether any big players did not want Google using their content with this new product.
Her product manager was also on camera. Mike’s question to him? Rate Mayer as a boss on a scale of one to ten. It’s just not TC50 until we get someone in trouble with his or her boss.
The video is on the jump.

Flipper really is a much better name.
Agreed
missing signs are “example” and “opposite”
Notice how much she blinks at the beginning when she is talking about Fast Flip – big red flag. That means she’s BSing. Then notice how she stops excessive blinking when she starts talking about social networking stats, etc. – her comfort zone. Oh – and the “product manager” with her is a dweeb. C’mon, that’s the best that Google could do?
M Mayer is in a very powerful position but as far as I can tell has yet to score her FIRST touchdown. Based on her hiring choices for product managers, that may never happen.
@McBeese – you are right. Marissa is too full of herself that anyone under her can’t speak freely of what she thinks. Typical big company problem at G.
Have you ever met a “product manager” who knew what they were doing past parroting what their “visionary” bosses were telling them to do?
If they’re any good they’d be in charge of their own startup instead of sucking down the Kool-Aid at a giant web firm that’s failed at making money on essentially everything it’s done save for AdWords & AdSense.
Arrington is a very pushy interviewer. Her product manager doesn’t seem inept to me.
Dammit: She does speak fast!
Understandable when she asserts “advertising does work”!
Some of the Product Managers at Google are “great” actually. But yes, they like many other companies suffer big company syndrome and just repeat what the higher ups want them to.
Why does she need to change the internet to tell her friend what gadget to buy? I guess nobody is clicking on Ads by Google anymore.
She’s into Tech and She’s HOT. I’d totally rate her high on TechHotorNot.com
