Facebook’s quest to become the social operating system of the Web is driven by how many how many other Websites and apps tap into the social network through Facebook Connect. The mobile Web is a big target for Facebook. Back in March, it made Facebook Connect available to iPhone apps, since those are the most fully featured and popular. Today, it took another step in expanding the reach of Facebook Connect to any mobile phone with a Web browser.
Called Facebook Connect For Mobile Web, it will let any mobile site accept Facebook IDs for sign-on, grab social data from Facebook with permission from the user, publish items into their Facebook stream, and more. (Developers can get more details here).
The mobile Web is already a big deal for Facebook. Across all of its mobile apps (iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia, etc), its mobile Website, and SMS, a full 65 million members reach Facebook via mobile devices every month. That comes to 26 percent of the 250 million total active members that Facebook puts out as its official number, or 18 percent of the 370 million monthly worldwide uniques that comScore measures.
Either way it is a significant and fast growing chunk of overall Facebook usage—between a fifth and a quarter. Back in December, only 20 million people were getting to Facebook via mobile devices.

The link to more details for developers doesn’t seem to work – it just takes you to the normal Facebook Connect for the Web page. Did someone forget to hit ‘publish’?
A very glad news from the Facebook that they have more mobile phone app users. The mobile web is already a big deal for Facebook. Facebook’s quest to become the social operating system of the Web is driven by many mobile based websites. Nowadays Facebook Connect available to iPhoneapps are the most fully featured and popular.
It is a very significant and fast growing chunk of overall Facebook usage. We like to get Facebook improved more and more!
I wonder what facebook’s strategy is for monetizing all these users. I don’t use facebook on the computer at all anymore and therefore I’m not seeing any advertising.
Facebook Connect For Mobile Web?
Really a good feature and extreme move by Facebook to capture the mobile web. Now quarter will sure give a hike to at least half. Sure it is a good add on to the other mobile users. Facebook enlarges.
FB is lame on ma BB Curve.
Bullshit. Define “active user”. Probably anyone who has thought “oh let me check out how FB looks on a mobile browser” is being counted as one.
how many of FB’s 225M even have smartphones and data plans ? just from my sample of friends, less than 10% do. and i live in the valley.
I see many updates from my FB friends that indicate that they were using FB mobile to make the update. In addition, my wife and I use the mobile client more that we use the traditional web client. I don’t live in the valley and the same can be said about most of my FB friends.
But of course I wont use my small personal sample size to grand judgments about the data…

An active user is someone that has logged in the last 30 days.
Very rightly said, Most of the users are now shifting from PC to mobile because it is easy to share your thoughts via phone while if they sit on PC for facebook , facebook take to much time because of its attractiveness.
was at a family bbq this past weekend and was shocked some of my computer illterate relatives accessing facebook through their mobile phones.
iphone app for facebook so much better than my bbery one.
Also very different from someone who logs into let’s say, Zynga 10K Poker iPhone app (KILLER GAME), using FB Connect, versus logging into FB itself. On the former, I find it convenient than re-registering for a Zynga “profile” but FB can hardly count that I was using FB as I wasn’t.
I find it both funny and telling that no one has replied to this post using facebook connect yet :D
how many how many?
There is a nice presentation about it on Vimeo.

I have a feeling that a significant amount of high school and middle school students are using the mobile web to access FB during the school day since most schools block access to it from there computers.
In our HS, 56% of the cell phone owners (95% of the population) have the mobile web on their phone.
How the hell do you know those stats?
I surveyed the HS!
Amazing that quarter of facebook users are using facebook via mobile phones.

The number of people using it will only grow with time. Although don’t know if that’s a good thing to have so many ways to access facebook, you’ll get to busy on it ;)
