BeamME Pro Update Hits the App Store
by Daniel Brusilovsky on August 31, 2009

beammeBeamME Pro, an iPhone application that makes it easy to exchange socially-networked information and build real-time intelligence on every new contact you make, has released a major update on the App Store. BeamMe Pro uses some of Apple’s new API’s to make contact sharing easier on the iPhone. BeamMe Pro, which doesn’t require user registration other then the download on the App Store, seamlessly formats your contact information.

Some of the key features in this release of beamMe Pro include contact mapping that enables you to track where you met people by viewing them on a map, a complete history of people you sent your contact info too, and a default Address Book integration. This feature is key because beamMe Pro will syncs seamlessly with your computer and other apps like Salesforce or Highrise without adding new software or complex processes.

The new version also includes Twitter integration that lets you gain followers automatically as you meet new people while keeping your contact information secure. And you can send your contact info to anyone on any device, whether or not they have beamMe Pro or even a smartphone. Additionally, there is a “Fun Zone” on the app where you can keep track of your networking stats, compare yourself against other professionals and complete challenges to help you raise your score and level within beamMe Pro.

What makes beamMe Pro so attractive compared to other contact sharing applications is that beamME Pro doesn’t have any ads, and has priority support for paying users.

BeamMe Pro is available for $1.99 in the App Store today. You can see a video demo below as well.

  • This App it’ s pretty pointless : the iPhone natively send your vCard or any contact you want by email or mms, so why should you pay an app to do the same thing in a more complex way ???

The extra features are silly, and anyway one need to register to the service to use them.

And please stop the b…it : this app has nothing to do with synchronization.

I found this article misleading and solicitation to buy an useless app.

Just looking at the comments in the App store one can get an impartial review.

I read TechCrunch to get real information not to get advertisements.

    • Good. BeamMe Pro a new updated app, is so attractive compared to other contact sharing applications.
It uses some of Apple’s new APIs to make contact sharing easier on the iPhone. This impressionable app does not have any ads, and has priority support for paying users.
The Twitter integration and the Funzone are the extra tools used in BeamMe pro will become a renowned app in future.

    • Hi Dave, I’m Gabe – the CEO and co-founder of beamME.

The principal reason we invented beamME is that the vCard format (the data model used by the iPhone’s built in contact sharing system) has ceased to effectively be a standard.

What this means for you and I is that we cannot trust the vCard mailer to work between devices. And with good reason – about 50% of all vCards you send via email or MMS between different platforms will fail.

Sometimes the failure is merely that the mobile number will not be transferred (because, say, the word “mobile” is not recognized on a blackberry) – or URLs – such as those for Twitter – cannot be read because they are not acceptable on some WinMO devices.

While it is true that existing solutions are probably sufficient for the casual user (although we are still faster, more reliable and have bluetooth support) – when you need to use a mobile business card for *business*, you cannot, must not and will not use a solution that is unreliable across platforms, gimmicky or iPhone-only.

That’s why so many Fortune 500 execs, senior government officials and startup CEOs love our product: it makes sure that your critical information is transferred every time, and that you can easily follow up with important contacts.

I’m not sure what you do for a living (or if you’ve tried beamME Pro), but if it makes sense, I’d love the opportunity to convince you that we’re on the right track. :)

Follow us on Twitter http://twitter.com/beammepro and reach out – I’m happy to give you (or any TC reader) the opportunity to try the product and provide your feedback about using it in a business context.

      • Hi Gabe,

thank you for the answer, let me share with you my experience with your app :

for living, I sell enterprise software for one of the Fortune 500 (actually top 100) Company, as you can imagine, being a sales person , I provide my business contact to a lot of people (customers, partners, etc..) tons of times per week .

That said, I bought your app some time ago, and I stopped using it quite soon because I got exactly the format problem your mention : yes , the vCard your App send is not recognized by Outlook (mobile missing) …sigh…
On the other side I simply don’t notice such lack of reliability in the iPhone vCard or Outlook vCard formats , you talk about.

vCard it’s not stadardized yes, so can you please explain how your app have solved such format problem no other has been able to solve ?
Do you guarantee that the vCard provided by your site are correctly recognized (with no data loss) on every device and application able to open a vCard ? Sorry but I doubt…

The problem it’s not about the price (pretty fair) and in general the design of your app is really nice.

        My vote : marketing : 10 , effectiveness : 5

Why should I complicate my life subcribing for a service, using a specific app and force people to navigate to you site to download a vCard that could in some cases fail to provide my info ?

And I wanted to blame most TechCrunch for doing advertisement and not a real review (perhaps do you pay them ?)

Anyway good luck for your business, dude .

        Dave

        • Davide:

Cool. I’ll gladly synch up with you WRT the vCard standard situation *and* some of the other cool stuff we do for business users (geo-location, full contact history, built-in greetings, logo + headshot, social networking integration).

Why don’t you drop me an email or a mention on Twitter (@gzicherm directly)? I’ve been meaning to write a detailed tech post on vCard and talking to you/getting your personal experience might be a great way to frame the dialogue!

          Looking forward to chatting!

          -Gabe

          • I’ll do, it’s a pretty interesting subject for a discussion.
Looking to read your tech post about vCard and to chat soon.

            Dave

      • Gabe,

A while back downloaded your app and played around with it, but deleted the app and using bumped instead.

I just got an email from your service using my email address which was part of my contact info.

“Customize Your vCard & Network Like a Pro
        Congratulations Steffen.
As a professional who uses ….” blah blah blah

I do not like that you grabbed my email address and use it to send me unsolicited offers, what are doing next? Sell my contact info to whom knows who?

Not happy, Gabe, not happy at all.

  • Glad to hear about this update! I’ve been using BeamME Pro for several months now. Definitely prefer it to handing out business cards especially because it’s easier to track who I met, when & where. I get more followups from people I’ve beamed my info to than if I hand them a business card, not sure exactly why it’s turned out that way but think it’s cause it’s immediate, online, and because of the coolness factor.

  • just a small mobile web application does the same for any phone: http://servlets....com/mshare.htm

  • beamME Pro doesn’t have any ads, and has priority support for paying users. + Address book integration + contact mapping..

    >>>> Welcome to BeamME Pro in App Store.
Twitter and Facebook integration has become default in all apps. It is really looking a lightweight app, including several new features for contact sharing. Will mapping provide the exact location? Also formatting the contact information on downloading BeamME makes contact lists to be dependent on it. Is it so?

    • Jack:

      Hi there – I’m Gabe, beamME’s CEO & Co-Founder.

Not sure I understand your question entirely, but I will say that Contact Mapping provides you with the best location that your iPhone’s GPS can deliver. So yes, it’s quite exact. :) When you link out, it will take you to Google Maps view on the iPhone, so you can dig in as deeply as Google will allow.

Separately, beamME interfaces directly with the default address book on your device – so you can have all the relevant information there.

If you need anything else, feel free to follow us on twitter: http://twitter.com/beammepro and we’ll be sure to answer your Qs ASAP.

      -Gabe

  • Aren’t there half a dozen apps that do this on iPhone for free? I don’t understand the point in paying nor the model of you pay to not see ads and get better support.

  • useless app. if you want iPhone app with some gimmics go for Bump. If you want an app that works across all platforms (Blackberry, Iphone, Android, SMS and even web) no one can beat DubMeNow. we have been using Dub for months and have been very happy. Those guys are upto something big here.

  • Hey, Its really great news. I will surely check it. Thanks for news
