Nearly two weeks after submitting the app to Apple, Facebook’s totally revamped 3.0 application is finally live on the App Store, according to the app’s developer Joe Hewitt. You can download it now here. The store currently shows that the app is version 2.5, but if you click the Download button anyway you’ll get the new version.
The new application brings a slew of new features, making it what may be the most useful app on the App Store (be sure to read this post) for our full review. Among the additions are Events, which have frustratingly been omitted from previous versions. Now you’ll be able to look up where your Events are, and you can also respond to them and see which of your friends are attending (for anyone who has ever had to boot up the web version of the site just to look up an Event address, this is a big deal). You can also post video directly to the site if you have an iPhone 3GS — a feature that will likely see the number of videos on Facebook increase dramatically.
Smaller changes include a News Feed that more closely reflects the feed you’ll find on the main Facebook site, as well as the ability to “Like” items your friends have created.
One feature that users will be missing is Push Notifications, which we suspect will be rolled out in version 3.1, which Hewitt is already working on. There will also be support for landscape mode in the upcoming release, and we may also see support for the ability to watch Facebook videos from the phone (right now you can only upload them).
It’s worth noting that the 11 day wait since Facebook originally submitted the application was enough to raise Hewitt’s ire (and justifiably so), leading him to condemn the App Store approval process and call for its removal entirely. I couldn’t agree with him more.

very cool, seeing if I can update now
may have to wait until I get home with wifi
I deleted the app and downloaded it again, and now have the 3.0 version.. looks cool :)
Dear Fellow Cyber Information Superhighway Users:
I made a Long Distance from my home in Arlington, VA to Chicago, IL. The cost was only 12 cents per minute. I wanted to ask about how to use the calendar function on my new PDA to plan out my days. They told me that I can Download the instructions from the World Wide Web. Wow, what technology. I asked the typist at work if we have the World Wide Web at our company. She said, no, but we have something very advanced called the Intranet. She proceeded to use the Personal Computer to send a CC Mail to someone for advice. He said that he does have access to the Information Super Highway at his home, and that he would go home and Dailup a connection, at which time he would Download the manual for my PDA. This is just incredible. He even says he Surfs the Web all the time.
Sincerely,
/electronically signed/
Prince Momar
PS, would anyone like to become Penpals with me via Telnet or IRC (Internet Chat Relay)?
I was making my gf a mixed tape and the phone rang and my answering machine came on. The caller left a message. I called back and got a busy signal.
I booted my computer using a floppy disc. It gave me a C:// prompt. I’m such a good DOS programmer though so I wasn’t intimidated.
Then my carphone rang, I ran to my Iroc-Z and answered it.
It must have been fasttracked, our app update is approaching like 4 weeks now and still not been approved. Emailed apple and have heard nothing yet. I’m wondering if we have any legal options. We invest so much time and money and for apple take this long is ridiculous
Your legal option is to stop developing on another businesses marketplace and platform, or utilize a more competitive and responsive competitor.
haha, we are on week 12, our 1st app was 2 weeks, the second was 5, then 11 and now we are waiting. Or, punch it out via cydia. We are seeing an additional 70% of downloads on jail broke phones now.
Then I remembered my favorite soap was coming on. Not to worry, my VCR is programmed to record — on to both Beta AND VHS tapes.
i think it should have been banned, because facebook is taking over iphone users’ lives
Well, you’re gay,
@george
I’m gay (lighthearted & carefree) too.
that is a very intriguing claim. do you have substantial arguments to back it up?
Only if you let it take over your life. You should know your limitations and do not let Internet and all its stuff control you.
It’s too blue… I preferred the original TBH.
You may need to delete your current FB app – you can’t click on the “Install” icon if you don’t.
yes you can, just download it in itunes and sync
First impressions, a very well polished app. Sleek and better designed and (tested on my wife also) much better to navigate!
Top notch.
Hmm… I still can’t see it on the store. Can anyone else?
It’s 5:40 EST and I don’t see it in the app store either, nor do I have an update notification.
Read all the posts – delete your current FB app, then reinstall FB from the app store on the phone. You’ll get 3.0 instead of 2.5 regargless of what it says. Works.
how about banning internet functions on phones? The app is pretty great to keep updated while your on the move. And you always have the option not to open the application when you dont want to.
cool now checking it out
FINALLY. I hope this means that the i.TV 2.0 update isn’t far off. Remote control your TV, TiVo, etc. from your iPhone
Apparently not available on the app store france yet !
Installed and loving it. Delete the previous app to install the new one. It doesn’t show it as an upgrade.
MySpace should just hang up their entire Mobile Group now.
This app should not have been approved. It duplicates IPhone’s functionality of accessing Facebook. The built-in Safari browser is already doing this.
Like the app, don’t like the icon. Feeling a bit torn. No doubt I’ll be over it by the morning.
According to the image I liked your status! :)
I can’t believe that Mike “Google Pays Me to Rant About Android” allowed this post to be published
I’m surprised he posted it after he posted “concerns” about it not being approved, while it was still in the normal approval time frame.
Amazing app … its clear apple is favoring some apps over others. Just 10 days to approve this when other apps have been waiting 30+ days! Glad it got ahead of the line though.
great; i deleted the facebook app, went to the store and it still says Installed…fail
Power off your iPhone and turn it back on – voila!
How do you upload a video on 3GS??? Can’t find the option.
Yup. Go to newsfeed or profile. Camera icon is located to the left of “what’s on your mind”.
GETTING IT NOW!!!
i guess video uploads didnt make it…anyone know where to find that in the app?
Click on the camera icon next to the field for status updates..
Hmmm, don’t see the update available. Oh well, what I really wanted was push notifications. So, not all that excited. :(
No idea why they didn’t include that in this release.

Works fine,,very nice application.
spotify is approved, too! looks like the threat of FCC works
Uh, I deleted the old version, re-started, went to app store and the old version is still there. Ummmm, help!
if you read the article, it says the store shows the old info, but it is the new.
THIS is the killer iPhone app!
downloaded fb 3.0…so awesome,,,,,,
thanks joe…..
delete the current one from ur iphone and go to the app store and install/buy it again….kkkk
Finally!! looks good. video uploads are too awesome.
Events are still totally useless (was it too much to ask apple to allow and export to the iphone calendar?) and more attention will be drawn to it now that it’s “Cindy” (think Brady Bunch squares and you get my drift…)
At least I can now be reminded to wish you happy birthday from my iphone…
Very Cool!!! Delete the App, then Install it again all from the App Store.
Looks great!
Never mind, I should listen to Axel Rose more often…and have some patience.
5PM central and still not up in US?
EDIT: uninstalling and re-installing seems to work…SOMEONE forgot to change version numbers >.<
No way to delete messages in your inbox. That still has to be done online. :-(
Just swipe over the message you want to delete.
Is it just me or does the new FB app seem to be draining the battery at a rapid rate?
you can finally zoom in and out on pictures. woot!
Landscape mode is in this version. Just not on the main grid page. But everywhere else.
Thanks for the update. This is so much better than the 1st version.
I wish they made tagging photos easier…why?
They need to updates the BB FB app like this :(
I didn’t have to delete the Facebook app. (???)
FINALLY!!!
Just go into iTunes and the iTunes store, go to facebook and download. You’ll get a small dialogue box that you are getting an update and resync. Doesn’t matter if it shows the old photo, it’ll download the update. (the icon is a little different). Then sync your iPhone and you’re set.
PASS
in previous updates there was no way to set a default picture, i hope they add that soon.
Took apple long enough!
check your privacy settings… as soon as I uploaded it people who I had blocked from seeing status updates started seeing them….
Actually slightly exciting. I’m slightly excited. *drum fingers against each other*
ya i dont like this update..
doesnt flow as nice.
you have to go back to main grid to go anywhere else rather than have everything at the bottom
and the chat is retarded. its not sorted in order of online and off but in phonebook order.
doesnt make any sense.
it would be nice if one could “download” an event and import it directly into the iphone calendar or if it would just automatically sync with it
I know, right!
QUOTE: “No way to delete messages in your inbox. That still has to be done online. :-(”
YES THERE IS! Just tap the message and hold your finger down as you slide it to the right or left. A red DELETE button will show up. That’s all you do.
It works exactly the same way as the Mail program.
That this is news is a kind of sad statement, really.
