The folks at Gmail always seem to be adding new features that help you organize your life. And the innovation seems to be paying off. Gmail is now the third largest Web mail service in the U.S, nudging past AOL Email with 37 million unique visitors compared to 36.4 million for AOL in July, according to comScore estimates. Today, Gmail has added a small, yet useful addition to its Tasks feature: the ability to email your tasks.
“Email Task List” is now being rolled out as an option under the ‘Actions” tab under Tasks. When you click on “Email Task List” it will open compose email window with the contents of your current task list. You can send your current task lasts or completed task lists to anyone.
Though minor in comparison to other features added to Gmail, the ability to email your Task list can be particularly useful to share both work-related and personal to-do list. But really, shouldn’t every Gmail feature have an email feature from the get-go?

Man, this isn’t really shareable lets be honest. You can easily copy & paste a gmail task list and stick it in an email. This is merely being able to email your list. If it was really shareable, you and I would be able to work on one list simultaneously…
btw, i realise you’re not a man…”man…” is my frustrated word, irrelevant of the sex of the person I’m speaking to
I agree… does this even warrant a post?
If your task list can be shared ala Google Docs then maybe its news… maybe.
You can send the contents of current task list or completed task lists to anyone.
>>>>> This added feature seems good and of course enhances the functionality of Gmail. But just sending a list is not a new one. If its a real-time sharable task list, then it would still be fine.
Actually, you can’t easily copy/paste task lists in Gmail as it won’t let you highlight more than one task at a time. So this is handy.
I agree too, I want the person I share it with to be able to check off items, or add items.
I also do not understand how this new functionality is calles “share it”
I got excited when a saw the headline, but this feature is hardly worth a post. Gmail tasks are fantastic and if they were shareable they’d make an awesome project management tool… alas maybe soon
Google screwed up the thing with usernames. By allowing “dots” anywhere and blocking “_”’s in gmail usernames, there are really very few gmail names acceptable for most people. No wonder that yahoo leads the pack. And Google Apps is crippled in some ways.
This will only get worse, given android, chrome os, and google wave. I eagerly await for more usernames from Google.
What’s wrong with a “.” in lieu of a “_”
For example, “Alexandre.Linhares” vs “Alexandre_Linhares”
Personally, I prefer the dots.
Yahoo “leads” the pack because it’s been around forever. Then again, I wouldn’t call responding to Gmail “leading”. Gmail was the first free site to offer 1 GB (back when Yahoo was offering what, 4 MB?). It was the first to integrate Chat…Yahoo followed suit.
I used to have a Yahoo account, but Gmail is the only email service I now exclusively use.
Why?
1. Simple Interface (doesn’t feel “clunky” like Yahoo!)
2. Chat! (Half of my friends use GChat, the other half AIM – which can be accessed from Gmail)
3. Space!
Its not much of a surprise…
Shouldn’t they be working on bigger and better things?
Wanna impress me? Develop a Gmail task list that can synchronize with my Outlook To-Do list and my iPhone, just like I can do with email and calendar.
That would be helpful.
I agree. That is something that would be far more useful to me.
Amen! I’m knee-deep in my task list on my BB every couple of hours. It’s been the best habit I’ve started for being productive. I just spent 10 mins today emailing them to myself for a backup. Why can’t these sync to Gmail like Contacts and Calendar?
It’s much easier to just plug your BlackBerry into your computer and sync your tasks than to constantly e-mail them to yourself…
I thought this would work like sharing an event on the calendar. Simply emailing the list is not really what I was expecting.
Not only does this not warrant a post, it’s not a very useful feature.
Something wrong with your F-Connect

It’ll be alot more useful when they open up the api for it so there can be offline apps (iphone) to work with it.
In iGoogle Google recently added social gadgets. One of the social gadgets is a toDo list which can be sync’d up with other friends with that same gadget on their iGoogle page. It updates in real time. Even though the gadget isn’t made by Google, it has been a great feature. I wish they would add this type of sharing with the task lists within gMail.. I’d much rather use that than my iGoogle todo list…
Like everyone else I came here hoping this meant true sharing of lists. I would use nothing but this and say screw Basecamp and other PM systems if I could, but it lacks that one essential feature… true sharing.
I believe the world would be won by ’spiritualism’
Weak sauce at best. Needs to be more exchange like (holy crap did I just say that?). Example, my wife should be able to share shopping list items with me and have them checked off or pinged when done. Though I doubt she needs a gant chart and with due date and assignments but um I could use one
.
I’m not sure emailing a list really even should count as shareable.
It ain’t gonna be killer unless google calendar + outlook sync, syncs the tasks.
Eh its not really “shareable” as we commonly think of that now, i.e. collaborative. I more often need to have a common task list with someone than I need to send someone my tasklist. The former I am waiting patiently for, the latter I will never use.
Does anyone know of a shareable task list, that multiple people can share, and maybe color code it and priortize it?
