MySpace just sent out an advisory that it will be holding a press conference shortly at 11:45 PT. CEO Owen Van Natta will be making an announcement (which , incidentally, will be his first public statement since taking over last April).
MYSPACE announcement—PRESS CALL INVITE
WHAT: MySpace invites you to attend a press conference call today to be briefed on breaking company news.
Could this be the official announcement that MySpace is buying iLike, the acquisition that got away from Facebook and Amazon? That’s our guess. Deal negotiations were progressing smoothly last we heard.
What we want to know is what will happen if Facebook now decides to cut off iLike, which is the most popular music app on the rival social network.
More details soon, as we cover this live.

iLike is “very small” so the announcement cannot possibly be “really big”
MySpace never called it “big.” They did put “BREAKING” in the subject line of the e-mail, which was kind of funny.
yawn!!!! facebook doesnt care about this
Interesting considering the ubiquity of iLike on Facebook. What could this mean for them?
How ubiquitous is it, really? Fewer than 100 of my 400-something friends use iLike, severely limiting the likelihood that I’ll bother doing anything with it. Facebook needs a “native” music solution. Imagine how limited the photo functionality would be if Facebook didn’t do anything with pictures and our pics were distributed across 5 add-on apps. That’s the dismal world Facebook is in with music right now…
Yawn. Wake me when MySpace buys Ticket Master then ads concert ticket bar coding scanning to their mobile app.
I can’t see this doing much for MySpace. It’s fighting a losing battle if it thinks this is going to suddenly turn a tide.
lets wait & watch.
Hi,
Great to know that MySpace started something, but have to wait don’t know how much???
