Facebook’s (now former) Chief Privacy Officer Chris Kelly doesn’t have to worry about frivolous privacy lawsuits any more. That’s because he’s moving on to run for Attorney General of California in the 2010 election. His Facebook campaign page is here.
Today, apparently, is Kelly’s 39th birthday. I know this because I was forwarded an email from his wife Jennifer asking recipients to donate to Kelly’s campaign.
I don’t agree with some of Kelly’s positions (he was on the wrong side of Facebook’s Holocaust denial debacle, in my opinion), but I’m contemplating endorsing him for the position pending his agreement to go on camera with us and answer some key questions we and our readers have.
Generally though Kelly is a libertarian-leaning Democrat, which is kind of Democrat I tend to like. If you want to donate to his campaign, here’s the link.
And if you’re feeling generous, you can get Chris something else for his birthday, too. Like this special edition Britney Spears “Womanizer” virtual gift on Facebook, which costs just $3.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Attorney General (I bet he loves the sound of that). And please don’t forget us when you make it big time. If you become president someday, I wanna be on the Supreme Court.

Golden! Also, a perfect post for 2:25AM. Totally golden Mike now get some freaking sleep!
that cost you $3?? what a waste…
and btw, happy bday chris!
Jeez, Mike… SCOTUS? Who are you, Harriet Miers?
That’s a great idea to ask for $39 on his birthday. Does that mean you would have to buy 13 Britney Spears “Womanizer” virtual gifts? I think it does.

I thought Techcrunch already was a Supreme Court.
In fact, the world would be a much better place if Techcrunch just ran the whole country.
Libertarian leaning Democrat. Are there that many of us out there. We need a NAME. DC insiders are using the terms – Red Dog (more conservative leaning but pro-military and limits on abortion, etc.), Yellow Dog (Southern Dem’s) and Blue Dog (moderate and conservative Dem’s) Democrats. — what’s a good name for Brian Kelly and his crew: How about the Blue Coyotes (Democratic but want gov’t to leave us alone).
Haha I like the sound of that!
Blue Coyotes
How about Redtip Dog.
I’m not surprised to see that Arrington’s vote is for sale… I predict a fail for Chris.
“…libertarian-leaning Democrat…”
Thanks for the laugh!
I’m with Mike. I got to know Chris when a group of us spent a few months on a deal on the east coast while at Wilson, Sonsini. Nothing gives you more time to get to know people than sitting in a room as junior associates doing diligence all day and hitting every restaraunt in Providence, Rhode Island by night. I don’t know that I agree with 100% of Chris’ positions, but generally lean the same direction as him. He’s a nice guy, very sincere and quite intelligent. This is one of the first times I’ve felt like a candidate for Attorney General of CA is worth a donation. Good luck Chris!
A Techcrunch sitdown is a great idea as I’m on the fence as well – like many I’m sure.
Good luck to Chris Kelly, but I don’t think he really has much of a chance against California Assemblymember Ted Lieu or San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris for a variety of reasons…
…also on the wrong side of Islamic terrorist propaganda on Facebook, which he told me on the phone that he considers “legitimate political discourse….”
time to make sure this guy never has a chance in politics. don’t want a state run like facebook… ever!
why doesn’t nigam from myspace run?– spice things up a bit…. the security guy v. the privacy guy! plus, wasn’t he a prosecutor for a bunch of years?
Why did you guys moderate my question asking if you guys make a profit from donations since there is a tracking code. I am not trying to slander techcrunch. I am just asking a question. I know many people create a farce of legitimate inquiry to slander techcrunch but that was not the case with me.
What the hell is a “libertarian-leaning Democrat”? Sounds like a form of schizophrenia.
39 Britney Spears for everyone
