Pretty neat: a YouTube engineer is playing around with the addition of 3D viewing capabilities to web videos on the insanely popular video destination site, reports Search Engine Roundtable.
The news site’s Barry Schwartz discovered a recent thread on the YouTube help forum and found out an employee named Pete is experimenting with the 3D viewing feature on his 20% free fiddling time:
I’m the developer working on the stereoscopic player as a 20% project. It’s currently very early, hence the silly bugs like swapping the eyes for the anaglyph modes. A fix for this is in the works.
The current tags are provisional and may change or expand. They are:
yt3d:enable=true Enables the view mode. (obviously you’ve already discovered this)
yt3d:aspect=3:4 Sets the aspect of the encoded video.
yt3d:swap=true Swaps the left and right sources. You may need to add this to videos when the player with fixed anaglyph modes ships. Apologies for the inconvineince (sic).Your feedback and suggestions are welcome, but as this isn’t my primary project I can’t promise a speedy turnaround with improvements.
Pete
An example video can be found here.

Wow, cool.
Sounds cool. I hope he succeeds in getting rid of the bugs soon.
Nice try, waiting for it
True waiting for a link to watch one of these early videos!
That’s pretty cool. Would like to give it a try.
This is a bit pointless if you don’t have anaglyph glasses.
No shit…
Hence the other options dipshits.. Don’t rain on the parade just because you’re too lazy to look at what else has been developed..
Focus through and cross eyed can be achieved with practice (but not recommended). If you have a hand held mirror lying around, I suggest going with the mirror split option. As someone who’s worked on several 3d Stereo feature films, this is the best method short of a polarized projector.
well you can always choose the “cross-eyed” option, i’m quite sure it’ll be effortless for you if u know what i mean
Can you censor 3D videos like normal videos? If not, me and Robin are against it.
pretty good actionscript-stuff.
I’ve tried it with red-cyan glasses but the 3D effect was pretty limited, almost unrecognizable. Maybe just this particular video is crap.
This video is crap.. Why they chose this clip vs the others available is beyond me.. Try the tomb raider or assassin creed ones..

Now those are at least a bit more visible and cleaner. However, the 3d is still pretty limited and shallow. I’d like to see more dynamic 3d examples personally. I did these with the mirror split option and was able to get a decent convergence at full screen and a horrible make-up mirror my girlfriend had lying around.
Hello David,
I am the author of these two videos and you mentionned and I am very happy you liked them. I am working very hard on these videos to make them look as good as I can.
Finding a convergence setting that suits everyone is quite difficult to achieve, I could use much stronger settings but i have recieved many complaints of people unable to focus when I used stronger convergence.
I’m quite sur it is inspireed by animoto 3D

Looks cool but has almost no effect !
WOWvx is the word but has been withdrawn from production.. to much money involved with flatscreens and stuff.
Prepare to be amazed!

Cool!!! http://www.aedesigns.net
Looks like a lot of fun. Only problem is I threw out my 3-D glasses long ago. Time to go get another pair.
The last movie viewed in a movie theatre was “Thriller” in 3-d….LOL
Damn, I needed to keep those 3D glasses after watching Ice Age in 3D yesterday…
I have tried mine and it doesn’t work
Waw, the 3D technology is behind us
Hey Guys,
I know of an Israeli Company named “Taatua” that has been developing such a 3D solution for real time systems.
I have seen a few samples and the result is surprisingly really good.
Has anyone else heard of them?? you can check their website at http://www.taatua.com, not much there but contact info.

Check this http://www.ipoint3d.com/
I have made a firefox addon for stereoscopic viewing.
You can use a CD to view the content.
It can play videos from http://www.blip.tv
( not youtube because they dont allow easy access to the FLV )
The requirement:
videos need to be in one of these formats
1. parallel
2. cross-eye
3. over-under
ex: http://blip.tv/file/2370956/
BTW: it adds this link automatically for the stereoscopic group on flickr

That Taatua (www.taatua.com) stuff is cool.
They have also added a channel on youtube with cool videos:
