Here's one for all of you.
Four weeks ago today I went into the AT&T store in Warrenton OR to purchase minutes for my older cell phone.
The sales clerk told me the system was down (SO WHAT ELSE IS NEW, AT&T?). What was interesting to me is that this sales clerk told me he'd been working at this store for nearly a year and that he had never seen AT&T's system "crash like this" before.
I was only kidding him when I said "Maybe you can trace it to Nigeria or China; It might be a cycber-attack".
At that point the manager stormed out from behind the counter and says "Sir, I have to ask you to leave". I asked him why and he he again said I have to leave. So I said "I was only joking with your sales guy; YOU getting all bent out of shape now makes me think there might actually be something going on that could be a threat to the security of my nation and you're telling me to leave?!"
The manager said "Yes, sir." So I left. I went to the Federal office where my wife works and reported this incident to Homeland Security. After that it took four days to talk to an actual person at AT&T (yes, amazingly enough it CAN be done!) and I was referred to a woman named Mary in AT&T's Asset Recovery department.
SHE assured me I would get a response from someone at AT&T corporate withing 7 days. Its been a month and I'm still waiting.
HERE is where things become VERY interesting.... This past Tuesday evening my wife and I were at dinner with a friend of ours. SHE told us personally that she went into this same Warrenton, OR store that very day. She recieved very poor service and when she complained about it she was accosted by a SECURITY GUARD! Our friend asked WHY an AT&T Wireless store could have ANY possible need for a security guard and the manager went off on HER almost as badly as he had gone off on me! She cancelled her purchased, dropped AT&T and switched to Verizon THAT VERY DAY! I know two other people locally who have switched to Verizon. This makes FOUR families in the last FOUR WEEKS who have switched to Verizon because of the conduct of that store manager!
Half of Clatsop County knows about these two incidents, and as word spreads, locals are leaving AT&T in droves! Another friend suggested the manager may be "afraid" that I'm going to come back in and cause an "incident" so he's just making sure he's "ready" for me.
I'm afraid that Manager is going to have a very long wait; I've left AT&T myself. I have no reason OR desire to ever again set foot in ANY AT&T store, let alone that sleazy little place in Warrenton OR. So if that manager chooses to paranoid, well, its a free country. If that manager wants to waste company resources on a security guard to meet a "threat" which does NOT exist, be my guest!
I'm switching ALL of my personal and business communications to Verizon at my EARLIEST opportunity.

I can't agree more with this article. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and am constantly having problems with the AT&T Wireless 3G network-a lot of dropped calls, poor voice quality where it cuts out and is static-filled, slow internet, voice and text messages I never receive, poor reception, and missed calls (where the phone won't ring). This company is a joke and I don't know how they get away with providing horrible service like this. Nobody cares about customers at AT&T. I am so fed up with them that I have contacted the Ohio Attorney General, the Better Business Bureau, the F.C.C. and the Public Utlities Commission of Ohio. They all told me that there have literally been thousands of complaints about AT&T Wireless. Then when the h*ll is something going to be done about this company and these problems? I am leaving their overloaded network and going with Verizon.

The last FIVE phones I have had with AT&T have had dropped calls and all that. It is not the phone. When I had Verizon - no dropped calls in the same area. It is not the iPhone as it works great on Tmobile and Internationally.
AT&T is so far behind, we just got 3G and MMS just came out - the phone was capable AT&T was not. So your wrong.

Just got off the phone with A"stink"&T! Couldn't access the Internet 3G or EDGE for 40 minutes! This is so stupid. My phone has been switching from 3G to EDGE constantly - it does not want to stay on 3G and I am in the middle of the city!
As soon as Verizon has the iPhone I am gone! Heck, you know what, I think I will just forget the iPhone all together. Too bad for Apple, but they were the morons to go into a contract with AT&T.
I am going to get a Google phone as soon as my contract is up.
I AM DONE WITH BOTH APPLE AND AT&T!

Viva this article! Fuck AT&T. I live in Michigan and last Saturday I went to the MSU vs. UM football game--the state's biggest college rivals. I could not receive or make calls OR texts ALL FUCKING DAY. I had 10 family members in town and could never get a hold of them. Another friend who has the iPhone said this happens EVERY Saturday game day. It took everything inside me not to PUNT the POS across the room. AT&T ALWAYS drops calls.

LMAO. Someone is REALLY REALLY MAD!! ARRRRGHRHGH!!

1. You would think that someone as fanatical about the iPhone would have remembered that, back on Launch Day, the iPhone activation process had to go through iTunes. I really can't believe you don't remember (or maybe you just didn't know) that. The activations were a nightmare because Apple insisted on all the iPhones being activated through their own iTunes software, instead of AT&T doing them through its normal process (which would have worked just fine). This is why AT&T told you that it wasn't their fault.

2. You link an article in Gizmodo that talks about how the new upgraded 7.2 network isn't any faster than the old network. Fine, let's check out this article. Well gee whiz, the Gizmodo article itself states "AT&T tells us that the trial is only live in Chicago on a handful of cell sites and on an internal basis, so none of you guys should be connecting to the faster network. The public trials are coming later this year, so it makes sense that the speeds are exactly the same." Do you even read the links you post?

Sheesh. Chalk up yet another blog on the "grass-is-greener" list.

Daniel McNeely hit the nail on the head. I was starting to think that I really wanted the iphone. But I did not want to deal with ATT. I have been with Verizon for almost 5 years and did not want to switch to ATT. So right on!!!! Thanks Daniel!

I'm in the process now of writing a letter to the corporate office because I've completely had it. I was told by 2 ATT workers (1 at call center and 1 at my local corporate retail location) that 4 towers around my home has been down since August 20th. I cannot call out nor receive calls, cannot text and when someone text me or leave vm I get the alert hours later. #1 I'm a real estate agent and my clients cannot get hold to me because I have a home office. I literally have to get in my car and drive .5 miles, park and conduct business in my car. #2 I have a sick mother 8hrs away and I can't get in touch with her. I was told that only certain phones are receiving service...I don't have an Iphone but it is 3G yet the Iphone work in my home. I'm due to upgrade in 2 mths and ATT refuse to allow me to upgrade early to a phone they we know is working in my area because Apple restrictions. The supervisor never apologized he was too busy trying to convenience me that the other 2 ATT employees lied to me and all the towers around me are working fine saying "its your phone"...no stupid its your NETWORK. I repeatedly told him that my phone works fine once I leave the area. EXPLAIN THAT. ATT may have a serious lawsuit on there hands if I start losing business or something happens to my mother and I cannot call out. And you know if I cancel my contract they won't waive the disc fee.
