A teenager isn't trying to "promote" him/herself, they just want to talk to their friends. If Twitter made it 1. easier, 2. cheaper, 3. possible to limit tweet visibility and 4. have some multimedia support in the tweet then, yeah, sure, they'd tweet. But the nature of Twitter is not this. So I wouldn't worry, when they get jobs, socially aware etc and want the WHOLE world to know stuff they'll tweet. In the meantime, just let them be kids for God's sake! They should be outside, not sending tweets every 10 minutes of their, soon to be forgotten, youth. The teenagers that I know don’t tweet because it’s just too open.
