Unless you’re the nostalgic type (I know I am), this won’t interest you much. Rollip is a basic web service that allows you to upload pictures and turn them into Polaroid-quality photos. Once you’ve selected your desired effect, you can upload a pic and Rollip will automatically transform your photo to look like an ancient Polaroid shot, complete with fitting discoloration, blurryness and the trademark frame around it.
Once you have, you can download the photo or share it on your social network of choice or by e-mail.
Here’s a picture I took last week at The Europas event in London, featuring TechCrunch’s Sarah Lacy and Paul Carr.

So, if they made a bunch of these we services, someone could build a client on top of them and combine them into one
Or maybe we can just use Adobe Lightroom…
I’m the nostalgic type too, but find nothing interesting in this post. Why convert them into polaroids? And what’s the business model!??
That is actually a great idea… since polaroids are no longer available.
Fail.

Expensive, but available.
would love to know if there is more than just a basic upload-picture/filter/download part to this… seems rather rudamentary, and something easily done with just about any image editing tool… ??? (and there is a billion of them already out there; online and offline)
Woo, it’s a nice web app that i look for, i love it.
There is an application called Poladroid that does just that, for free.
True, but it’s desktop software. For those interested: http://www.poladroid.net/
Poladroid saves the photo at a much higher resolution, so I’ll stick with that. It also lets you shake the photo so it develops faster
Will that work for the black & white snaps?
Looking at the images it looked the captions were interchanged
a polaroid has the larger white space along the bottom where you can hold it, write on it, & ’shake it like a polaroid picture’ while you wait for it to develop….
Are you kidding me? This is not a news worthy article. There are tons of iPhone apps that create a Polaroid effect (as well as many other effects), including CameraBag, Polarock and Photogene and allow you to post and share the results.
Robin, you must be really stretching to get your post quotas out this week.
Next up, a Twitter app!
Nifty
!
Everyone looks better via fuzzy chemical development
This is pretty weak sauce, but it’s even weaker because the converted pictures don’t like like Polaroids! Polaroids have a sort of smeary soft-focus transition between the highlights and shadows, and fine details are never resolved (Paul’s eyebrows and Sarah’s eyelashes are much too sharp). All Rollip seems to be doing is a moderate vignette and contrast boost.
Er, that would be “don’t look like Polaroids”.
Must say I’d never heard of this before so am pleased Robin posted it. Something to quickly and easily change the appearance of our thousands upon thousands of digital photos must be welcomed. And I do miss the old Polaroid tinge! And don’t forget – Gentlemen take Polaroids.
I use the similar ShakeItPhoto app for the iPhone and like it.
I prefer the original. Actually I’d prefer something sharper.

“Making bad photos different.”
No apparent rights-grab in the TOS, but then, the TOS reads like it was written by your average 6th grader with access to an attorney.
So it looks like the model is to get as many profiles as possible and sell to someone who wants the information.
