There is a big difference between reporting and writing - I think thats the point he was trying to make. Techcrunch is great at reporting news. NYT is, and should be, about writing about the news. Just because something has happened doesnt necessarily make it relevant to the broader mainstream.

I am a big NYT fan/reader. definitely room for all kinds of journalism. Thankfully in TECH blogs do have a lot of weight and access to important sources (more so in politics every day). But access to sources and first hand research are really important - TechCrunch gets that. So while eschewing so-called "process-journalism" TC still manages to break stories and analyze trends, etc. But the grey lady isn't going anywhere anytime soon - plus besides reading TC in the mornings they've done quite a bit to try to stay current with blogs, videos, etc.

I read the SMH every day and have noticed the same thing. They've even run an article about TC and Mike Arrington on the site before too .. I think it was when he was flagged as a really influential guy - or something like that. At any rate, it's not just the NYT that is inspired by some of TC's posts.

Check out the Fairfax Australia news sites:
* www.smh.com.au
* www.theage.com.au
* www.watoday.com.au
* www.brisbanetimes.com.au

I read things on Techcrunch and then several days later if by coincidence an article on the same topic appears on those sites.

A good comeback would have been 'Hey really. That's great - I read your little blog sometimes too!'
