I forgot one thing, a major mistake from Google, when you have a portfolio, you can see events for each stock in the portfolio, next to the event you can add it to your Google Calendar by clicking on the Calendar icon. This is the same as the previous version which is good. But with the old version, you had a calendar icon that could be clicked on in order to add all events in the portfolio. This is now missing and something I use and thought was a great feature in Google Finance.

Is this another example of Google really kicking Google Calendar out of the door. Maybe it's not a big money spinner, but it's certainly an excellent tool!!!! Come on Google, get it together with you calendars!

This is mostly a nice step in the right direction. Unfortunately the LHN bar has made the main portfolio page a little too cramped and it all seems a bit pointless. You could do the same with the previous version. As for the "live streaming quotes" shown on the diagram in the article, well all quotes are live and streaming, just create a second portfolio as a watch list and watch them flicker about.

But when you select a stock the changes are much more worthwhile. The technicals are a great addition, I no longer have to use Yahoo! Finance for the technicals. Where Yahoo still wins is you can add stocks from many more exchanges around the world. Google still have a long way to go on that, ...I don't always want to add an ADR if I'm trading on a foreign exchange.

They still have a way to go to catch up to MSN Money as well. There I can get the financials/metrics of a company for the last 10 years. I know you can do some of this in the screener but it doesn't cover everything Microsoft have. And it would be nice to be able to get this information on the main page of the stock.

Yahoo!, Microsoft and Google all have their strengths, nobody wins hands down yet, and I'm still using all 3 sites for 3 completely different reasons. But Google are now major players and level with Yahoo! and Microsoft.

Kinda. Your story doesn't really provide screenshots of the new product (besides what is on the Google Getting Started page).

[...] Google Finance rolled out a bunch of new features to all its pages recently. Chief among them, and most requested by users, was the ability to show market “technicals,” like Simple Moving Averages, in the webapp’s charts and graphs. The left-hand navigation bar now breaks Finance up into sections, and includes real-time stock prices that don’t need a refresh for new data. Any section of the site with a drop-down right-hand arrow can be moved or eliminated now, as well. [Google Finance Blog via TechCrunch] [...]
