That’s 44 accounts by my count. Where are all those Jaiku accounts?
Still think they have no interest in the micro-messaging service? Of course they do. It just may cost them more than a billion dollars to satisfy their fixation. And Microsoft is starting to get a fixation too. Remember when the two had a bidding war over a stake in Facebook?
Update: Interesting. As Habib points out in the comments, it looks like Google may have missed one of its own accounts in the region list: Google Arabia. That makes 45.

I’m sorry the logic flow does not seem to be there.
A. Company has 44 twitter accounts
B. Therefore they are interested in buying Twitter
My company employees have more than 44 Gmail accounts and believe you me, we sure as hell are not going to buy Google.
If Google wants to enter real time search they will build one themselves or just buy Yauba or Oneriot, not twitter.
Wave will have search built in and real time language translation, so you will most likely be able to search other languages in your own.
It blows twitter away so badly.
Big deal. Microsoft has 54, and this is just a list some blogger came up with, there are probably more: http://arstechn...-of-twitter.ars
One quick question for you: Can your company afford to buy Google? And if so, why wouldn’t you?
Hi MG, this question wasn’t directed towards me, but I think you should keep in mind that we’re in the middle of a huge recession and that Schmidt explicitly said that he is cash hoarding until it stops raining.
http://www.tech...hones-into-tvs/
“Eric Schmidt:
I shouldn’t talk about specific acquisitions. We’re unlikely to buy anything in the short term partly because I think prices are still high. And it’s unfortunate I think we’re in the middle of a cycle. Google is generating a lot of cash. And so we keep that cash in extremely secure banks.”
Eric Schmidt was the CEO of Novel before Google, keep that in mind. He knows what it’s like to be at the helm of an extremely broke company.
That was a good reply Chris. But, MG’s point was Google is interested in the micro-messaging service. It is liable to be true as not just Google, everyone in the web world, see and marvel at the growth of Twitter. So, if not Twitter, Google would build something on their own or buy something or wait for the Twitter wave to subside to launch something else.
One quick question for you:
I think you meant two.
Can your company afford to buy Google?
No.
And if so, why wouldn’t you?
Because you don’e need to buy a cow in order to get the milk.
“Because you don’e need to buy a cow in order to get the milk.”
You also don’t need to marry a woman to bang her.
Okay yes, that was two
Still, point is the same. Sure, maybe you don’t buy if you can get the milk for free. But if a competitor buys the cow, that will complicate things.
They don’t have to buy the cow.
Look at what they did with Kiko.com with Google Calendar.
With their maps competitors. With Yahoo search.
Why don’t they buy Yahoo finance?
Why don’t they buy a lot of things?
It’s not economically viable for them to do so. It’s a lot cheaper to penetrate with Wave then it is to buy Twitter. They have the majority of internet visitors. They have the leverage over Twitter.
Eventually Twitter’s traffic will fall off.
tats true
why not go for other kind of milks? :p why just stop at a cow!
That’s exactly what I was thinking. I was wondering how far I’d have to read down the comments to see a mention of Google Wave.
Google Wave will be a total game-changer. Even more as Google brands more Twitter pages that it can use to promote the Wave. If Twitter doesn’t get busy expanding beyond its walls, it just may not matter after much at all after the Wave.
I am excited to see what happens.
Did you check that Google is missing both Gmail and Google Apps account? http://techie-b...r-accounts.html
They moved @googleapps to @googleatwork last winter. @GoogleMail has a few entries but doesn’t seem to be very actively used.
I think MG’s discussion of buying them was more related to Jaiku than anything else.
Google tried to buy a Twitter competitor that had more features and probably for cheaper than they thought they could get Twitter for…with Twitter’s recent explosion in popularity, it’s clear they bet on the wrong horse.
Microsoft has 65 twitter accounts. http://security...t-twitters.html
Just because they use the service as a utility doesn’t mean they will buy it.
A lot of companies that never wanted to buy MySpace used MySpace to promote. Same with FB.
Google will not buy Twitter because they have Wave. There are currently hundreds of developers that attended IO and the GTUG meet up that got wave sandbox accounts and are using them to build the next gen Twitter.
“Remember when the two had a bidding war over a stake in Facebook?”
There were only 2 bids for FB at the 15B valuation, Microsoft’s 250M investment and one from a NYC hedge fund, reminds me of Madoff, at any rate, they both fell flat on their faces.
Exactly.
At our company, we use Gmail, Yauba, and Fotolia a lot.
We have neither the means not the inclination to buy Google, Yauba or Fotolia.
You don’t need to buy a cow to get the milk.
it is an effective way of talking to consumers, so i like it
Of course Google likes Twitter. Everyone and everything does.
You missed one in Region: http://twitter....om/googlearabia (Middle East)
That’s 45 now !
interesting. that means they did!
Yes, they have and as the blog post says, it maybe updated. So, Google may overtake Microsoft’s 54+ soon…and I’m sure you will report it when the accounts touch 80 or something?
I was wondering how you can tell if it’s an official Google twitter account?
both microsoft and google are giving twitter a lot of love. way more love than they normally would. Twitter is being courted.
I wonder what MSFT would offer to make sure that GOOG doesn’t get Twitter…
Arrington: I believe you are reading too far into it. Why miss out on such a cheap and effective marketing/customer service tool?
If you want gossip, please spend time on the SoundExchange deal in the cntext of the Pandora-financing specifics, Viacom’s (ultimate owner of Last.FM) ownership of numerous terrestrial radio stations, or something.
this is proof google is completely engaged with twitter. congradulations twitter.
I think everyone should follow their example, customer focused communication methods enhance the relationships and we’re more like to continue using their products.
I had a problem with Blogger the other day, within minutes a CM contacted me through Twitter/Friendfeed and resolved the problem. Great customer service!
Very true, and all towards what end? Buying it? Or for, dumping it?
I think its kind of ironic that Im seeing a Chrome add in the header… is there anywhere Google isn’t?
To the Chris/Logicus dynamic duo above:
Anyone comparing milk, cows, and Internet company valuation via analogy should reconsider the basic economics of dairy production and husbandry.
Else, your arguments make for something that looks like mud… but sure doesn’t smell like mud.
Since when are bloggers licensed Investment Bankers?
since never. I’d love to see FB go to the SEC and file for an IPO citing Techcrunch as their valuation source for 15B.
College Humor should make a movie about that.
The SEC filing attachment would be a printout of the techcrunch web page on an inkjet printer with a UPS counter notarized stamp as dilligence.
Perhaps in another parallel universe.
I have no idea if Google is interested in bying twitter or not. However, the argument that X has a lot of account on Y, therefore X is interested in buying Y is faulty logic.
Microsoft got around 100 accounts: Arstechnica got a list with half of them.
http://arstechn...-of-twitter.ars
Missing @googlevoice.
One of the shortest MG posts ever….. What are you hiding?
Holy crap. Brands should have be on Twitter, as should the folks running them, but this is … awesomely excessive.
Have to agree with Arrington, there is more going on here than it seems.
Everyone loves twitter don’t they ?
And Google is not from some second world. They’re from the same place we belong to.
Google is biggest on web , doesn’t mean that they want to use only their services.
Google always appreciate the best on web, I guess. And twitter is too good to get appreciate.
From what I can tell, NASA is just as interested too.
I’m subscribed to at least 20 of their twitter feeds, and I’m sure they have way more, maybe more than Google’s 44.
I’m still not convinced that it’s a given that Google will buy Twitter. Google really screwed up on Jaiku; as far as I’m aware, they paid it almost no attention after acquisition and never even opened it to the public before killing the whole thing.
If Google were to build its own microblogging service and simply integrate it into the GMail window and mention it on the Google search homepage, it could obliterate Twitter in a very short period of time. (Wave is not a Twitter-killer because it’s a distinctly different product.)
theres something special about using twitter. to have users switch can be difficult at this point. twitter is entrenched in the minds of users. for realtime microblogging saying ” google me” will never be as profound and meaningful as “twitter me.” if twitter plays it cards right they can easily dominate the realtime microblogging revolution.
Check it out…
People are squatting on possible future Google applications:
http://twitter.com/GoogleMusic
Jaiku probably seems like a failed investment again!
Google loves twitter so much haha
what about Google Chrome: http://twitter....m/ChromeBrowser
hmm.. or the Google Wave account: http://twitter....m/TheGoogleWave
Ok, last one: http://twitter....ChromiumBrowser but there are probably more – Google is all over twitter
“How Much Does Google Like Twitter?”
Not as much as Techcrunch does.
We all love twitter. Right?
I would honestly like to see more of Google’s people using Twitter. Get them all signed up, the grounds keepers, the security guards, and even the janitorial crew.
I think that google should try to buy twitter and implement a better and reliable interface.

Thank you
the social media networking is ruling at the moment…esp twitter…no wonder google is courting the trend, look forward to the google wave…(^^)
If I follow GoOgle, will GoOgle follow [trail] me? UhOh…
I’m surprised it has taken this long for the big guys to pick up on the trend.
Google forgot to add their affiliate network to the list.
http://twitter....GoogleAffiliate
They provide regular updates about the Google Affiliate Network.
Linda Buquet
they also forgot GoogleQSB – http://twitter.com/googleqsb
Here is a visualization of how much the Google Twitter Accounts are used (posting frequency over the past week) http://www.flic...459040/sizes/o/
Not only google likes twitter, everybody like twitter. I wonder if google has any interest in facebook?
