Facebook has updated its publisher tool to allow users to create events directly through the Publisher. After clicking on the “Events” icon, you can enter information about what the event is and where and when you want to meet.
You can invite friends published event that’s created either on your profile or your news feed by selecting the “Invite guests” link to share the event with friends. Facebook says that the advantage of using the new event tool over just listing an event through a status update is the ability for friends to RSVP immediately when the event pops up in their news feeds. Plus, Facebook says that the new tool allows gives you the best of both worlds—the ability to use features of the Events application while still publishing the event in the news feed.
Of course, this means that if you create an event through publisher, it will make the event fairly open to your friends, who can also invite other friends. It doesn’t seem to be designed to be used for events that are meant for a select few of your friends. Facebook says that you can edit your event from the actual events application to change access, but that cannot be done within publisher.

Very cool. Micro-event management?
good term
This is not a story big enough for TC post
Cool. Now if they’d only let me query for my own events the same way I can find my own photos. .
I know… for some reason, it’s so difficult to get to your own events. I’m not sure why this is such a pain. Drop-down menus or something?
Does it allow you to control who can attend?
All well and good… But how about bringing events back to the TOP of the right column!? At the very least, bringing back the ability to move boxes around on MY home screen!

Cool! Now Facebook is copying Orkut. Nice!
Makes sense that this update came when it did. FB had been stripping all of the buttons for creating events out of the Pages management. I was wondering what they were doing.
This move is logical. All part of their strategy to have a single update line for sharing videos, links, status updates and now events. Are notes next?
Who really cares? Oh wait, for some reason I do.
Nice, but my event post about meeting friends for lunch will get drowned in all the other noise and super pokes in my friends’ Facebook streams. Oh, and we all get invited to too much stuff on Facebook that the majority of us either ignore it all or RSVP “Yes” to everything.
You should check out Sponty. It solves the problem of casual social events in a much cleaner way, without even having to explicitly invite friends. It also answers “what casual social evens are my friends up to today” in a snap !.

I’m glad that Facebook is finally starting to give Events some TLC. Hopefully Events will soon become more like Pages with status updates and third-party applications (like fullseat.com)
Well, the Facebook API support for events is very poorly done and poorly documented. The problem is that you can’t post a URL to an event. Hello FB – this is the WWW here. Without an RSVP, more info / details urls, fb events are useless. I hope they’ll change it too. It looks like there’s still not URL field in the screen shot included in this post. Anyone in FB reading this?
The only feature worse than FB events for social events planning is MySpace shows – that broken thing hasn’t been updated since myspace music launched. The devs were probably let go and the whole shows thing on myspace just rots away daily
This is a facebook connect test.
sounds gud
