With the news surrounding the implosion of Joost and the startup’s move towards providing white label video platforms for companies, we thought it would be a good idea to check in with one of Joost’s new competitors. As we wrote in our post about Joost’s prospects as a white label video community provider, there is already plenty of competition, including Brightcove, Magnify, and Ooyala.
Brightcove is perhaps the best-known player in the space. But another one which has been relatively successful in creating interactive video sites for brands is Magnify.net. The video hosting and sharing platform, which launched in 2007, is rapidly growing its white label service and is expected to be cash-flow positive by the end of the year, according to co-founder Steve Rosenbaum.
Magnify has recently partnered with several sites to power their video aggregation platforms, including deals with Etsy, CarsonDaly.TV, and Bicycling.com. Magnify has also created white label video channels for Zappos, New York Magazine and The Weather Channel.
Bicycling.com recently decided to shift from Magnify’s competitor Brightcove to power its platform for original content. The cycling site is launching its Magnify-powered site in conjunction with its coverage of the Tour de France, which starts July 4th. It was attracted by Magnify’s social features, such as the ability to pull UGC videos from sites like YouTube and updates from Twitter. Bicycling.com online editor David L’Heureux plans to integrate Twitter streams onto the platform from cycling all-stars like Lance Armstrong. Magnify also allows the online magazine to aggregate a mix of videos and makes it easy for the site to offer readers external videos and internal media that is created by Bicycling.com.
Additionally, Magnify is creating subject-driven channels, such as IranLive, that aggregates video content around a specific topic and also integrates live Twitter streams with the mentions of that topic. The IranLive Twitter stream has filters that remove any Tweets with derogatory or abusive language.
What does the Joost white-label service do again?

My mind just exploded with all of the stuff you just mentioned that the website can do. Joostsaywut?
It could never last with that terrible name.
Yeah, the name does sound stupid.
i agree ..!! sound stupid ..!
Coooooooonnnnnecting
So what’s the best whitelabel solution out there?
You forgot to mention Delve, Kyte, thePlatform, bitgravity…and half a dozen others
Magnify is alone in its class, I know the space well. Kyte, and others like it are ’streaming’ services. magnify.net has focused hard on a platform to build your own YouTube with your branding, your site UI, etc.
Also @needmula.com, Skype is also a terrible name (sounds to me like a disease) but very successful. You could argue that Google sounds stupid too
Delve, thePlatform, Kyte, & BitGravity are a few others.
What is the best white label solution available today?
Magnify is by far the best free video curating and publishing solution I have found.
I think the people there seem really cool, and I don’t think the name’s that bad either.
I built Magnify’s 50,000th channel, and they really pimped it out for me. I’ve built another 40+ channels since then.
The key difference here is that a white label service brings in revenue through service fees against the higher level features and branding of the platform vs. the hope of shoving advertising into a mix.
craig,
can you disclose what that 50,000th channel is? Would be really helpful to see what these guys can do…
I think you can add wwwfliqz.com to the mix, too, no?
And this one: gogomash.com
i know magnify.net founder Steve Rosenbaum personally – one thing most people who come to this online video world don’t have that Steve has is a background in professional film/video production – he has an intuitive understanding that takes years of being on both sides of the fence and magnify is a place where people can curate content – also magnify might just be a model for the future of NEWS – i watched the oscars from british tv without american commercials on magnify.net too – in full disclosure i have no investment or interests in magnify.net
Where’s the CrunchBase gadget?!
Whats the biz model though? As most sites as reluctant to pay anything when everyone is giving it all away for free! I always get nervous when a company writes… “will be profitable at the end of the year” meaning… we shall work it out somehow…

P.S. – Sorry, forgot to tell you great post!
Broccoli, in the white label space, there is also Ooyala, Videobloom and Dave Networks. The model is simple: offer a good service, someone will pay for it… Ha,that’s new!
I’m surprised you’ve not mentioned WorldTV.com – it offers an extremely user friendly ‘create your own, curate your own’ video channel platform. Over 150,000 channels created by users in 190 countries. P.S. It’s cashflow positive already.
(Disclosure – I’m the CEO)
Hate to say it but WorldTV.com is nothing like Magnify.net’s social platform. What makes Magnify unique is their CMS back end that allows you to add things like blogs, twitter feeds, live streaming modules, and many others. WorldTV just looks like a giant player.
Magnify… Good people, great products… win.
While being a competitor in the video aggregation market I will admit that Magnify has ‘mature’ as a platform. When I first took a look at their UI, I hated it, it was too confusing. Today it is much better and I see that they are learning from their mistakes. Kudos guys!!! For those who care and to give a shameless plug, my site is myVidster.com which is not a white label solution but a social video bookmarking and video backup solution.
White Label == no biz model, many squeaky wheels and too little oil. good luck. FAIL.
oh, and i forgot, content noone cares about. if people have good content, truly great content, streaming it themselves (unless they just suck) just isnt that hard to do. get a couple of hulu-fanboys to do your interface and rake in (err.. our out) the dough.
on your mark… get set… lose money!!!
It is out of date ,, and the name really…sxxks
Great product and best on line support!
I wrote a little about this last week when the news broke about Joost and Maven. Please enjoy, as it comes from a slightly different perspective: http://www.veep...e.com/wp/?p=171
