Advertisers should consider multiple methods of advertising but the one that gives you the most bang for the buck is clearly Cost Per Action (CPA).

Big is good, but covering up content , or popovers are really just more of the same popup window screen message infringements.

Our way is to place ads in locations where big imagery and presence is already the expectation, and do that in a story-telling mode

I don't care about ad size, in general. I believe in supporting what I am pleasured by.

What I do deeply despise are ads that play unpredictable games with my viewing space within a site locale.

Also, few things are worse in the ad kingdom than being a paid subscriber to a online rag that continues to goddamn advertise why I should be a paid subscriber.

Salon.com is a great example of this insipid dripping of misery upon my effulgent visage.

We need to see more ads that are focused and relevant...not necessarily larger. If the ads are expendables and 100% elective, it isn't a hug problem....except for those advertisers who deliver the same stuff re skinned on every site. Maybe they can get all 50 states on a lead gen ad now and cover Canada and South America?

Agree with you here Miguel. The amount of data that google and doubleclick have on users is already staggering. Even without us "willingly" sharing any additional info on top of, simply, our day to day surfing habits.

Advertisers need to do a better job of creating more engaging and relevant ad content. Taking more pixel space will only be another short term "solution".

I'm just a little guy who makes <a href="http://neighborwave.com/advertising" rel="nofollow">small business advertising</a> but all of these push technologies just wind up annoying people. The companies that give up space for big ads don't have any room left on the screen for content-- and that's going to increase their bounce rate... which will be reflected in their pagerank... and suddenly they've turned their companies into AOL. why visit a site that is just an idiot's tool for pumping marketing into your own head. Not much audience left for that model.

andrew...

i'm assuming you're young.. with a limited tech background..

adblock works by blocking the url the content is coming from...

so yeah... adblock would still work...

unless the owner of the site, created an ad, that continually changed its' url, then adblock would pretty much work...

Agreed!
I think the current concept of the bigger the better is just plain stupid. It's a fact that as more users become "Internet Savvy" less ads are being clicked. This is true especially for in-site ads and not search engine ads which still have a much higher CTR.
I think companies / entrepreneurs have to start thinking creatively. Banner ads that have worked great for the past 10 years are not working anymore. Look at the low CPMs and the declining results of Google AdSense... (great article here: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/adsense_the_weak_elephant_in_the_room.php)
Like said there... there is a HUGE opportunity here for some new form of in-site advertising... maybe social aspects will help. I dont know. I just know something new is around the corner...

I think the current concept of the bigger the better is just plain stupid. It’s a fact that as more users become “Internet Savvy” less ads are being clicked. This is true especially for in-site ads and not search engine ads which still have a much higher CTR.
I think companies / entrepreneurs have to start thinking creatively. Banner ads that have worked great for the past 10 years are not working anymore. Look at the low CPMs and the declining results of Google AdSense… (great article here: http://www.read...in_the_room.php)
