But still, fundamentally, people are talking about the iPhone as a phone. It’s so much more. Apart from being a pocket computer it fits into the whole iPod ecosystem. I can hook my iPhone into my car stereo with full control over audio and video playback, including playlist support, album art on the stereo display, etc. When I’m on the move I can dock it into my portable speaker system and have charging while it plays back audio and video. Want FM radio on the iPhone? Just buy the relevant add on. To really assess the value of the iPhone you need to look at the full range of functions it can perform

I grandfathered my plan to move to the iPhone 3G which has 6 second increments voice, caller ID, voicemail, some text (don’t need) and the 6GB data plan for $45.59/mo. all in taxes etc here in Canada. I can now tether my laptop as well, at no extra charge.

Pandora is really sweet on the iPhone. You can think of it like radio, only there are ’stations’ that play only certain types of music (patterned after a song or an album) with no commercials.

I have a iPhone but I have to ask what’s your point? Let’s say that everyone in entire world has an iPhone – then what? Are we all cool as hell or have we all now become just a like. And what fun is it to be just a like.

The iPhone is a useful device but people that begin to identify themselves because of the phone that they carry need to get a real identity. Try identifying yourself instead by your favorite basketball team or your college, or better yet your high school, or maybe your city.

MG, we get you love the iPhone and are a Apple religion devotee (like Tomboy Cruise is a Scientology fan), but as a tech writer, that’s completely irrelevant. Spend your time doing competent research and writing articles.

For, as some ppl have already pointed out, the credibility, depth and objectivity of TC posts have all dropped significantly. Techcrunch was a much better magazine some 6m ago, reporting on new lauches, having scoops, while now, you seem to be sporting opinions mostly. I am seriously considering stopping reading you. Or better yet, I’ll have my blog reader exclude articles from certain authors.

And for what it’s worth, I lent my iPhone to a friend for a week, and he gave me his Nokia E71 instead. The feeling of freedom, a better keyboard, much better browser (hey, has flash and pretty much everything else make me miss my iPhone for exactly 0 secods. And made me sad for having to give the Nokia back. You should try it, you know.

Good stuff MG. I’m still a bit unclear if this pricing goes on forever, or will they discontinue the 3G once their stocks run out. I’d guess they’ll stop it after the next iPhone is announced next year.
