I am in Europe and did get an email from AT&T telling me that I had a bill of $320 for web access. I didn't do a lot of surfing just email and using Google maps. The question I have is why is it so expensive to surf when we are out of the US? Is this just a gimmick to make money for AT&T or are they being charged high rates by companies such as Vodaphone?

ATT isn't the only carrier with reps who don't understand decimals. Here's an amusing story from somebody who had the same issue with Verizon, trying to convince them that $0.002 was not the same as 0.002 cents

Ya know. I've been using the Pageonce Cell tracker and i can open it as often as I want to show my usage, current bill and more.

I just log into my AT&T account and off I go.

seriously, it's been the best free app I've ever gotten.

AT&T canceled my plan when I was fully paid up. No service, no contact until January 2008. Then I get a bill for $1,200.00 - *2* sets of disconnect fees (2 phones on plan, $150 a phone, 2 sets of fees) and billing for 3 months of service which I didn't receive. (My boss has signed a notarized affidavit that he tried to call me on my cell phone in Nov 07 and was told the number was not in service; my wife tried to call her mother on Nov 12, 07 and wasn't able to.)

My account was fully paid when they canceled me; I'm not paying a disconnect fee for that. I'm not paying for service for 3 months in which I didn't have service. Yet I have a $600.00 "bill" AT&T wants to collect from me on my credit report - they took off 1 set of disconnect fees, after I called them four times. (The first time I called? I got told, "You just need to learn how to pay your bills, sir.")

This is the same situation as when I had their OneRate plan years earlier and moved. Called to update my address and they told me that I would have to pay an early termination fee because OneRate wasn't available in my new location. I said they could cut me off, but I wasn't paying an early termination fee. Took me nearly two months to get that straightened out -- if they're disconnecting, YOU don't owe an early termination fee.

So AT&T - and any of its apologist or asshole customers - can kiss my ass.

That "bailout" money was EI money that small business paid through the nose. The same workers compensation in the USA costs 10 times less.

Employer side of EI and provincial is the worst rip off in the history of North America.

Are you a construction company with high risk? A small software firm where the only possible accident could be a paper cut?

You pay the exact same workers comp starting at 5k per month and goes way up on a steep curve.

For all the grief, the b1tches at the ministries, who were appointed, not elected, some by the Queen herself, gave the money to their executive friends who promply took it, and declared bankrupcy.

Nice eh, aye, heyyyy????

Ou est leur cheque du le bien etre SOCIAL my AMI ???

Do you not-ed understand-ed DIIIIIEEEEEESSSSS???

I have seen enough smelly pseudo frenchies for the rest of my life.. YUK. Too psuedo french to live, to afraid to die.

I say turn Quebec into the new Area 51, testing and all. Massive radiation couldn't make the people there any dumber.

Not at all. Most people in Canada have no idea how their own government works, or should I say doesn't work.

That's why they are so happy, they're ignorant.

Americans are very educated in contrast.

If Canadians were educated the largest employment sector in Canada would not be lumberjacks.

http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/11-621-m/11-621-m2007055-eng.htm#2

"n 2006, the sawmills and wood preservation industry sustained more than 54,400 direct jobs across Canada. In addition to direct jobs, it generated significant economic benefits through the support of indirect jobs. It is estimated that an additional 90,600 jobs in other industries were related to the wood industry.1 So altogether the industry provides over 145,000 direct and indirect jobs."

Most all of the Canadian bailout money went to:

A. General Motors in Ontario illegally through Export Development Canada

B. The lumber industry where Canada subsidizes stump fees, and then complains when the US tries to recollect fees to even the prices with the US lumber industry.

In less than 100 years Canada will cease to exist. People are so dumb there and getting dumber every single day that the country is bound to implode.

Did I mention that the US exiled all the loyalists there during the revolutionary war? Well, now I am.

If Canadians were educated the largest employment sector in Canada would not be lumberjacks.

http://www.stat...07055-eng.htm#2

“n 2006, the sawmills and wood preservation industry sustained more than 54,400 direct jobs across Canada. In addition to direct jobs, it generated significant economic benefits through the support of indirect jobs. It is estimated that an additional 90,600 jobs in other industries were related to the wood industry.1 So altogether the industry provides over 145,000 direct and indirect jobs.”

AT&T has long been known for billing and customer service issues. Sure, every carrier has problems, but it is clear that AT&T is not an exception.

Then, AT&T was complicit in an illegal wiretapping scheme on behalf of the Federal Government.

Since the iPhone launched, there have been an endless stream of complaints about excessive bills, bills delivered in bankers' boxes, phone activation problems and other issues.

And yet, everyone and their brother is lined up to suckle at the teat of AT&T simply to use an iPhone.

Here's an idea: rather than whining endlessly, vote with your wallet. Don't buy an iPhone, and don't do business with AT&T.

It's that simple.

The iPhone plans are obscene compared to voice/data plans on other carriers, and while the phone is cool, I'd rather not do business with a company that was complicit in illegal wiretapping.

I refuse to do business with AT&T.

A very great story by Philip Ling of Canwest News Service in Canada. Looks like he got an interview with Adam Savage, too. Look at this reaction!

MythBuster uses Twitter to fight $11,000 phone bill
By Philip Ling, Canwest News Service

"Any notion that social media can’t effect real change has just been dispelled by a man who makes a living shedding light on half-truths.

Adam Savage, the co-host of the popular TV show MythBusters, has solved the problem of the unfathomable $11,000 cellphone bill he got while travelling Canada.

This time, instead of using science to find the truth, Savage turned to his Twitter account..."

[...] Twitter works great in Brazil. So great that it gets you fired! Former Real Madrid manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo was sacked by Palmeiras, in São Paulo, Brazil, over what he wrote on Twitter [Portuguese] two days ago. Is this the first time a professional sports coach/manager has been sacked because of what he has written on Twitter? I couldn’t find any other examples, but I could well be wrong here.
I probably shouldn't get into this also as it is off topic, but have you ever wondered why your gas costs twice as much as mine even though Canada has the 2nd largest oil reserves in the world?

http://www.oilsands.alberta.ca/

The total cost of taxes on fuel in Canada is 35%, but the tax on the actual fuel which produces that 35% is about 55% total.

So if you buy $1 of gas, which doesn't even by you a 1 liter or 0.26 gallon of gas, you would be paying 0.65 for the gas, and 0.35 tax on the gas.

So for 0.65 worth of Canadian gas, you are paying 55% tax which is 0.35.

Usually in countries that are oil rich, the gas costs little to nothing, but in Canada, they need the money to fund their luxurious government expense accounts, and their friends through various crown corporations.

It DOES NOT go into health care at all. There are SOME transfer payments that happen between the provinces and the federal govt, but most of the money is wasted on the luxury of the ministers and their business partners.
