This is because the FB graph is not described accurately here: the graph shows _all_ status updates on FB around the time of the event. That’s different from the Google graph.

I found out about it on facebook first because of the status updates, and then i googled it.

@Pukeko. The reason for the decline in status updates is that people sent up a whole bunch of R.I.P. messages on Facebook, and really you only need to do it once. So 7 hours later, most of the people had already done that and there was no need to do it again. The news spread so fast that i’m sure almost everyone in the world had already heard it 7 hours later.

There’s lots of speculation about this, but the most recent theory I read was that he was getting jerked around by the concert promoters before his death. He didn’t want to do the tour. At least according to http://www.f2bbs.com
