Bing is currently dropping sites and pages like theres no tomorrow (just like MSN always has done)i've noticed this with several sites.. they do come back though in the majority of cases.
Bing is a joke.. the all new search engine, yet behaves exactly the same as MSN and returns the same results.

This research validated my blog post that Bing's results page really is an improvement over Google's offering and will deliver productivity gains for the searchers.

Bing is all about the results page and for good reason. Check it out here.

[...] A search for a local hotel, however, produces similar results on both search engines in that area just below the top ads (a map with local listings). So there was not much difference between the two in the how much time was spent looking at the top ads related to that search.
I just got out of our weekly managers meeting and during our discussion I suggested we should start changing our way of thinking. Currently that thought process (purely from an SEO/Link Building perspective because that is what we do) is that "Google is the only one that matters". My suggestion was that we need to start thinking about Bing as "mattering". I personally have not switched but Bing made a positive impact on me the few times I have tried it. I think Bing is going to start mattering and a number of the comments left here are proof of that.

Are you joking? The Bing results for this (assuming you've been laid off and are looking for a job forum to search for new work) are FAR superior to Google's -- theirs are all about recent news items or old archived news items -- nothing helpful. This is why Google is starting to lose market share -- cluttered irrelevance.

Google is littered with old/irrelevant links with no way to exclude from future search results...

Bing has delivered consistently excellent results so far -- superior to what I get from Google; Bing is now my default search provider. It was just that easy.

Here's why I will not use Bing until they seriously improve their results:

http://www.google.com/search?q=the+pirate+bay
http://www.bing.com/search?q=the+pirate+bay

Which, incidentally, is also why I suspect MS of some massive astroturfing, judging by the comments here.

I've given Bing a half hour try, and it came up with results that were often so massively flawed that nobody in their right mind would find them useful.

I wouldn't which both because of habits and because I dislike the MS brand.

However I do agree that Google doozed off on innovating especially around advanced search. For years it was just a tiny option (in size 8 font) and a bunch of search field.
It was efficient. Just not appealing.

I was excited to see them improve and add "show options" recently. But it's still hidden away (and only available for Google.com - meaning USA).

Google said they liked competition. Personally, I hope that pushes them forward to innovate... but I actually hope MS doesn't ever become the leader. We've seen how they handled this in the past...

However I wouldn't want Google to become the Microsoft of the web either... That all too dominant player either buying or suffocating innovation.
We've started to see Google copy too many business in the past few years.

I really liked the Yahoo Boss idea, where people could create custom search engine. I also liked the Google experiment with users ranking results... I think Google should explore some of this space.

I do think that people are underestimating the amazing advantage Google has over Bing. Not just in term of user habits but relevance. I've used so many of their search engines (patent search, book serach, news alerts...)... all of these specialized search engines that they have built over the years and which feed nicely in their Universal Search Engine.

Actually I recently got a great idea to change the whole searching space upside down... If any investors wants to hear me out: soloren2001[at]gmail.com
PS: no I do not have a search start-up. Just had a great idea while drinking coffee and wondering about the bing vs google battle ;-)

I was excited to see them improve and add “show options” recently. But it’s still hidden away (and only available for Google.com – meaning USA).

Google said they liked competition. Personally, I hope that pushes them forward to innovate… but I actually hope MS doesn’t ever become the leader. We’ve seen how they handled this in the past…

However I wouldn’t want Google to become the Microsoft of the web either… That all too dominant player either buying or suffocating innovation.
We’ve started to see Google copy too many business in the past few years.

I really liked the Yahoo Boss idea, where people could create custom search engine. I also liked the Google experiment with users ranking results… I think Google should explore some of this space.

I do think that people are underestimating the amazing advantage Google has over Bing. Not just in term of user habits but relevance. I’ve used so many of their search engines (patent search, book serach, news alerts…)… all of these specialized search engines that they have built over the years and which feed nicely in their Universal Search Engine.

Actually I recently got a great idea to change the whole searching space upside down… If any investors wants to hear me out: soloren2001[at]gmail.com
PS: no I do not have a search start-up. Just had a great idea while drinking coffee and wondering about the bing vs google battle

OK, here is my problem with Bing (and other Microsoft search products): it's not intelligent:

Try searching on bing with the 4 keywords: job, layoff, networking, forum (for the US region and .com sites only):
the first 5 pages of results are all from either jobsearch.about.com or net-temps.com. Oh, that's helpful, huh?
Compare this naive list with Google's result, and I bet you'll agree that Microsoft still has a long way to go to catch up with Google in the search engine market.

I tried bing.com and found a pretty good reason that people aren't switching: the search results are just not as relevant and there is lots of garbage in them. That they stole the UI from google to make it less obvious it is a Microsoft thing doesn't help. he way they changed it makes the page load slowly and I absolutely have no need for a search engine to guess where I am located and send me a regional site.

Bing has some pretty pictures, and it sounds like there are fans here.

Personally, I use Google for search exclusively, but would love to see Yahoo get this kind of excitement, but no matter what MS comes out with I won't use it.

MS should have been broken into two companies years ago as per Judge Jackson's ruling. If they take over the web, we'll all be sorry...as they have a history of tieing any thing that they dominate with a bunch of crappy software. If you prefer to use a browser other than IE, you should worry about MS becoming dominant on the web, or one day you won't be able to complete common tasks online with any browser except IE.

Call me a MS hater, its true. I've done business with MS, Yahoo and Google, and came about my dislike for all things MS through those interactions.
