I have to agree with Apple about taking "Hottest Girls" off the app store. All of you who think it should stay up are sick. I mean, I get that kids have the ability to do whatever the hell they want with their computers , but do we HAVE to encourage it? We don't have to become completely Nazi and monitor whatever they do, but that doesn't mean that we can go blindly doing whatever we want and not care about what the kids are doing. There is Google Chrome with their incognito browser, it records NO history, so kids go wherever. I wouldn't call myself an uptight person, but can we please keep the kids away from porn?

It gets more interesting - today I was invoiced for this particular product. I went to apple's "report a problem" and outlined the issue - that is, I have been sold a product which doesn't work.

Once submitted, Apple tells me that it's not their problem and provides me a link to the authors page with a mailto: link.

Sent him an email - I want my money back now!

I purchased the app. It wasn't all that brilliant, other than its novelty really.

The interesting part is that now, when I start it up, I get the following message on the screen

"This version will no longer work.
You should delete this version."

It's not like I can get a new version, so this is now starting to look like a case of a credit card chargeback. i.e.: I purchased an application for my iPhone in good faith, and with the expectation that it would work for more than one day :-)

Yeah, it's only a couple of dollars, but it does open up an interesting case where either Apple or the application developer not only pulls an application from the store, but also disables that application as well.

Of course those apps will rise to the top.
So apple will just add one line of code in whatever they call their app and limit the +18 apps to appear in the top 50

As a parent, I can honestly say I don't care what my kids look at. I would mind if they decided to go off and meet strangers -- but as I keep warning them, "He might say he's 16 and look like a Jonas Brother, but he's a 50-year-old fat bald guy who lives in his parents' basement."

Also, they'd have to ask me to give them a ride there, so I'm feeling pretty safe.

As far as looking at dirty pictures -- its a basic primate instinct. Women's magazines are filled with soft-core photos of mostly naked women. (Thus providing additional evidence that yes, most women are bi, and yes, they like looking at naked girls as much as men.)

When I was a kid, I remember dirty pictures being passed around by other kids.

In experiments, monkeys would give up their treats in order to look at monkey porn: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6892037/

Hmm... new diet possibility? Don't go to the fridge... turn on Skinemax.

And the reason the iPhone is convenient folks, is that you can have it with you under the covers -- it glows in the dark, unlike traditional print magazines -- and is more convenient than a computer monitor.

And, frankly, I'd rather my teenagers explored their sexuality by looking at pinup photos on their cell phones than by actually going out there and doing live experiments.

But at the end of the day, I have no illusions. There's not much that any parent can do in the face of the teenage sex drive. The only thing we can do is teach our kids to lie to us more convincingly -- and get more creative in getting around the weak-as-cottage-cheese blocks we try to put around "adult" content.
