Another public official of South Carolina shames himself: Governor Mark Sanford is extremely sad that he got caught cheating on his wife. The video is here, the transcript is here. Bottom line, he says “I’ve been unfaithful to my wife.” Read all about it everywhere.
All I’m wondering is, where’s South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster when we need him? Adultery is serious business. This is clearly, somehow, all Craigslist’s fault. For example, how do we know that Sanford didn’t meet his mistress in the adultery section of Craigslist? And also, can we please kick South Carolina out of the Union now?

Hilarity Ensues.
Hi Michael,
This is ridiculous. Nowadays, it seems like in order to be a politician you need to have an affair. Like a mandatory qualification. So sick of politicians.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I’d rather take Mani’s comment-spam over StupidLocator.com guy anyday. They both generate useless comments that seem to be pissing people off.
Mani – if you spent the same amount of time on your business as you do spamming the TC comments, it might be more beneficial.
Thank you for information beautiful websites and iphone application. It shall inform me of up to date tech news. Article is great. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Dude meh (if that’s your real name). I think you are over-reacting a bit. I looked at his website. It seems ok. So what if he got carried away with the comments. I think he got the message now.
Everyone deserves a second chance. Lets all try to be civil here.
Yeah, it seems to be that whenever you put a website and get to comment at the top, people think that you are trying to spam, which is but true for half of the time.
To be a politician in the US, you need to be a) religious, b) an adulterer, c) rich, d) a lawyer
I’ll never be in politics because I don’t meet any of the qualifications
That argentinian woman sounds really hot!
Laughing my ass off right now. Thank you.
Lol, we need to stitch a giant “A” to his clothing just like they did back in the colonial days. Just so he’ll think twice about doing it again.
Watch out for these guys: http://www.scscv.com/
The same hypocrisy could be repeated a thousand time over for marijuana and politicians.
I think he met his “girlfriend” in the casual encounters section of argentina.craigslist.org.
The party of hypocrites…what a grand ol party she has become. Do as we say, not as we do.
So that leaves like four Republicans left in office, right?
I believe the headline should read, ” SC Gubna rejects Obama, accepts stimulus from Argentina”
What about, “Mark Sanford is in favor of offshore drilling?”
LOL +1
Yes, Sanford is a sleazebag, but please don’t bring up that ridiculous “Kick South Carolina Out of The Union” article again.
And don’t plead the “we’ll shame them into doing something about it” excuse for writing that. It’s still a stupid way to express an opinion, one without integrity or thought about the people who actually live in our state.
The majority of politicians act like this — it’s just unlucky that ours (SC) are the ones that do it in public.
not trying to shame anyone into doing anything. just, simply, making fun of an entire state.
Arrington is bringing it. Thanks bro.
I was expecting a better reason behind you views — and, inexplicably I got reply that makes you seem even more ignorant and distasteful than before.
It’s over-generalization, and the bias behind it, that really makes a person (let alone a journalist) seem lacking in integrity.
It might just be a big joke, but it’s not called for.
Simply put: our politicians are crap (like most), but the people in the state aren’t any worse than the most people in rest of the country.
the idea is that it is so over-generalizing as to be absurd. Which in turn highlight’s McMaster’s absurd position on Craigslist. It’s actually quite clever.
True, I see your point — but if this happened in any other state, would you apply that same sort of writing to them too?
Good writing doesn’t permit the kind of portrayal you have made on SC.
Anyway, thanks for the clarification. The writing is somewhat clever, looking at it in this light, even if it is a little demeaning.
Hey Ryan,
I get what you’re saying. I was able to find Mike’s post funny but then again, I don’t live in SC so I can’t identify. I’m sure if somebody posted something similar about my state/city/neighborhood I’d might take offense to it if it was a generalization.
Tuyen
McMaster’s position on CL/Craiglist is only to cover his potential tracks as an Adulteress. Oh! what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive!
The implication that adultery is wrong is the most ridiculous piece of this story. Get over it people. The weiner wants something different than the brain. Biology 101.
and I’m sitting in SC LMAO. Hilarious — how can someone not laugh at that?
Do they forget that they are the ones that voted theses guys into office! The people of SC are the ones that need to take some responsibility and vote these guys out!
Attorney General Henry McMaster is making his move to replace Governor Mark Sanford.
It all makes sense now.
I remember someone claiming that male politicians, by virtue of the fact that they have “male politician personalities” are far more likely than regular folk to have problems controlling their sexual urges.
How is this directly related to technology? How do you even causally link Sanford to the Craigslist issue? Your own TC article, that you link to, doesn’t have one mention of Sanford. It’s a shame you waste your considerable reporting talent on trifling and tacky “stories” such as these.
the connection is less than tenuous. But I couldn’t help myself.
It isn’t so much a tech story as it is an irony too good to ignore. An Attorney General vying for the governor’s spot tries to play hardball with Craigslist over prostitution to win over the “family values” voters, while the current governor is sleeping around.
Time for another TC poll about whether SC is more important than Craigslist!
SC, is weak in my numbers. San Francisco, New York, Miami and Los Angles were my largest markets at over 1.4 billion images.
“Don’t cry for me, South Carolina… The truth is, I never left you… Well, just for a few days… Down in Buenos Aires… I had some issues… with my family values…”
awesome post. wonder if he met her on the argentina CL postings? lol
He’s tiptoed around the gender of his “dear friend” many times and hasn’t said “he” or “she” or anything like that. There’s rumors that it’s a man, which would make him the latest anti-gay biggot GOP member that turns out to be secretly gay. I always love it when that happens.
This article is in bad taste, not to mention doesn’t have anything to do with technology startups. People with a voice should rise above this type of so called journalism! Otherwise you might think about creating a new section titled SlanderCrunch.
lol… lighten up, nancy. I think this story is pure political hypocrisy poetry.
Craigslist ate my homework.
So Governor Mark Sanford is “extremely sad that he got caught cheating on his wife”
Not extremely sad that he cheated, just that he got caught. Symptomatic of politicians everywhere, they only care about getting caught.
The sadness comes from the hypocrisy. I’d argue there is nothing wrong with an honest open marriage. It’d sure save the hell out of most of the ones I’m familiar with. But, yeah, the propping up GOP family values BS so the rich few can seem to have something in common with the racist hillbilly many, and then not actually living up to it? That sucks. But only in the sense that, since they are liars, the racist hillbillies actually have no one to represent them, really, so they may as well vote for the dems, who for some reason still defend their ridiculous unions and protecting the lame status quo over making real progress and tough decisions.
Meh. I can understand the mocking due to Sanford. He chose to live and push for higher moral standings. He failed them and deserves criticism.
I also find it sad, though, that just because he failed in his attempt to live by a higher standard of morals, those morals aren’t worth holding yourself to.
Many politicians have failed in this aspect but have been given a pass because of their party affiliation.
“clearly, somehow. all Craigslist’s fault”
Lose the period after somehow.
Also:
“Adulterer
Probably a Craigslist user”
Yours is mistyped.
hey thanks.
Just tryin to help. =)
some jokster with press credintial needs to ask if craigslist help facilitate his adulterous lifestyle and youtube it.
Now let’s be fair — SC *tried* to leave, all the yankees got all up in muskets, marched on down and dragged them back in…
It’s a little to late to whine about ‘em now… they tried to cancel their membership, but y’all just had to hang on to ‘em…
Whoa! For a moment, I thought I was reading Wonkette. Nicely done.
slow news day
what the heck does this got to do with TC? So by mentioning Craiglist, this automatically become a tech news? well then, congrats to you TC, for founding a new, never-ending source for your articles! Now is a good time to trim 90% of the TC fat, no?
Mike,
McMaster used his powers to protect the kids. CL is the sleazebag here. Rubbing its eyes and turning its head the other way all the while where thousands of atrocities were dumped upon the kids who came either willingly or inadvertently in touch with CL.
Gov Sanford may not be a good example for kids, let alone any age group. But, he possibly won’t accomplish the damage CL did to our most vulnerable group over the years.
Soon, you little girl or your little man will need to find a job, furniture or services. Make sure you send them to CL. They will be loyal visitors. And one need not ask why?
Kudos to Wyatt Cenac on the Daily Show, except it wasn’t a coyote that Gov Sanford was chasing.

Mike,
South Carolina is full of people stuck in a cycle of poverty and injustice.
Many of those people are black. They’re still suffering because of the sins related to slavery.
Don’t castigate the many because of the actions of a few.
I love it when the red ink hits the pic like that.
