OK, just to set the record straight for everyone here who has had no problems with the Iphone freezing, locking, etc. It happens, often. I used to work tech support for apple and believe me 50% of my calls were locking applications, the other 40% were people who had dropped it, got it wet, tried to used it as a cannon projectile, etc, and were angry the warranty wouldn't cover it, the other 10% were people who didn't know how to use it and needed help. So yeah, lock-ups happen a lot. And god help you if you ever do any software updates without backing up EVERYTHING manually cause every time there was an update we would get swamped with calls from people who lost everything because the update failed. To sum up, iphone is FARRRR from perfect. I quit just to maintain my grip on sanity. :)

I would argue something a bit different... the iphone is the *first* device that is always with me... everywhere I go therefore it's availability to have an accident is highly increased. I have it more then my wallet or keys.

To use a driving analogy... your chances of having an accident is smaller if you drive 1/2 the week vs. 24/7. Are the other phones *on person* that much?

Give me a break. It is easy to buy one of those silicone covers. The iphone in itself is slippery and heavy. With the silicone cover, it give it more stability and actually feels lighter. I know, strange, but I guess the feeling is stable. No sliding in my hand or table.

Apple being a big brand charges $9.99 to iPod Touch users but TechFlipper has made it possible to hack iPod Touch for free, moreover it tested by our experts and this hack really works for iPod Touch users further more it works with iPod Touch 1G and 2G equally.

By following the simple steps you will easily update iPod Touch with firmware 3.0 absolutely free of cost.

You guys should look into what your insurance providers can cover in regards to the phone. Speak with your agent about insurance companies that will cover your phone under Renter's Insurance or look into getting a "rider" (add-on) that covers your cell phone, especially since both AT&T and Apple don't offer Insurance options for the iPhone :)

/shrug Just an idea!

I work for AT&T and get calls about this allll the time! And as an iPhone owner myself, I'd like the peace of mind.

Believe it, because it happened. Do a search for "iPhone browser crash" and you'll see the problem is pretty widespread. Though it got better with 2.2, it still crashed a lot.

The two apps that would freeze the phone consistently were Tap Defense and Mocha VNC. Tap Defense would do it once every 10 games or so, and Mocha VNC would freeze the phone on launch every single time if the phone hadn't been rebooted recently.

Sure, you can blame it on a few bad apps, but app code should always run at a lower priority than crucial system services, such as the service that checks to see catches and terminates crashed apps. There's no reason that a single app should be able to take down the whole OS.

Well, there is one reason: a buggy OS. The iPhone OS is not exactly bulletproof, but then again, OS X is still buggy on the desktop, too. I still see plenty of beach-balls, for seemingly no reason.

Believe it, because it happened. Do a search for “iPhone browser crash” and you’ll see the problem is pretty widespread. Though it got better with 2.2, it still crashed a lot.

There is a ton of anecdotal evidence in comments, but nothing scientific, and the article is highly deceptive.

In the first section it compares iPhone failures to blackberry and Treo phones. But then it says 20% of iphone users have dropped their phones and damaged them... but then didn't say how many Treo or BB users did! That's highly deceiving! Where are the comparative statistics?????

I've had two Visors, two treos and now an iPhone. I've dropped them all. All phones are droppable. They all have smooth plastic surfaces. And this is just smart phones. What about cell phones in general? What about portable devices in general?

Here's a statistic that needs tracking: Age of the phone dropper. BBs and Treos until recently were disproportionately marketed to business users until the iPhone came along. Then suddenly there was this explosion and the iPhone was marketed to the masses as a consumer phone as well. How many of those droppers are teens? You know, careless, thoughtless teens with rich parents. Say what you will about what that says about the iPhone demographic, but if the demographic says teens are more likely to get iPhones than a BB or Treo, then I contend they are more likely to drop them. I could be wrong though, only proper statistical analysis will prove this or not.

Without comparison, this 20% figure is meaningless. This article is FUD until comparisons are made not only to other smart phones, but to other devices.

what in the world? I don't get this article at all. The graph clearly shows other phones as more accident prone (or failure prone) yet you focus on the most reliable phone mentioned? What gives?
