If you’re annoyed by TPS reports right now, consider yourself lucky. This week saw the staff reduction of MySpace by 30%, to bring the total number down around 1000 employees. Things dont look good abroad as well.
But the situation might be turning a corner. Last week the U.S. Labor Department issued their Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report. While it showed an increase of 608,000 in jobless claims last week, the number of continuing claims dropped to under 6.7 million.

“If your annoyed by TPS reports right now.”
Hire me TechCrunch. I know the difference between your and you’re.
I really hate to say this, but you’d have to be an idiot to work for MySpace, Facebook, any social networking website and think you have job security without a prior written agreement saying you have the job for x years.
IBM, EDS, HP, MSFT, Sun, ect… were there before these fly by nights and will be there long after.
It’s harder to get a job at an established company, but it’s worth it.
Perhaps, But you fail to mention that all the companies you mentioned have at some point (and some recently) have had layoffs too. Besides 15 years ago people would have said the same of Microsoft and 10(?) years ago of google. Like many other things Social Networking is an emerging field and is here to stay. In fact this blog that love IS the corner stone of social networking, imagine the nerve of the readers being able comment on article’s. If you are like me you articles in established News paper websites and get disgusted when there’s no “comments” section

What the Fed report does not account for are those dropping off the rolls and those people who have found work, but are severely under-employed and still will struggle to make ends meet.
We might be turning a corner but it is more like a l-o-n-g bend in the road to recovery.
The present trend shows increasing number of mass lay-offs of male workers rather than women.
Lay-offs are going on every where …. a never before ratio. It’s not only that small companies are laying off their employees even giant companies do. Forget about the lay-off … did we even imagine even in our wildest dreams about GM or Chrysler ? It’s not about job security … Competition is every where .. Pep up your skills and try alternate industries which are booming right now….
