Orders for the new iPhone 3G S are now in the air from Shenzen, China. And people who ordered them right away last week may be in for a treat – arrival two days early.
A friend who ordered the phone as soon as he could got his UPS notice today that the phone has been shipped, and the tracking page on the UPS site shows a June 17 delivery date, two days before the phones will be available in stores.
If it does arrive then, will AT&T activate it? Or will it be an iBrick for two days?
We’ll check back with him as soon as it arrives for an unboxing. And if he’s amenable, a tear down. I want to see the insides of this thing first hand.

Who cares?
Why do you want the be the first on the block?
Why do you need an iPhone after all? For the great Fart application?
new here?
Hahahaha!
I came in here because I was sure there couldn’t possibly be any argument with trolls after a post like this, but alas, I was wrong.
How about a comment upvoting/downvoting system that filters out the trolls? This whole “first” business is like slashdot circa 1998.
Hacker News and Reddit have particularly good systems. Even that tween hangout Digg has a decent system which lets you set comment thresholds.. When you filter out everything +5 or less, you’re left with a pretty good conversation.
God, all my fart applications are going to be some awesome on the new 3G S.
The lack of a magnetometer really held the entire fart app category back.
Agreed.
Now you’ll be able to tell where the fart came from.
Most Gadget lovers and techies would love to stay updated on the latest iPhone 3G S. If you dont really care there is no need to even comment here, because ‘Who Cares’ about your comment!
That really correct Amit, I think he just want to take some juice of backlink by being the first commenting on the post.
His backlink has nofollow so he will get no SEO love and I dont know why anyone would want to click on a blog whore’s link.
Plus after seeing what he says I can tell I wouldn’t do business with a place like that.
I did click though… one of the blog entries is about how CEOs who claim business is better now are lying.
Really? Our sales are up 200% from last year. Does that make me a liar for saying something that is true?
Mine is listed as the 17th delivery as well. Didn’t expect to be that early of an adopter!
I ordered mine within 3 hours of it being posted on the Apple store. Looks like mine is coming on the 18th. I assume you can activate them as soon as they arrive since iPhone OS 3.0 will be live by then as well. Better than it all happening all at once like last year’s fiasco.
Mine’s listed with a 6/16 delivery date to San Mateo, but that does seem a little unlikely. Reminds me of the good old (?) days when new PowerBooks would get held up at customs in Alaska.
Mine also showed a 6/16 delivery date to San Mateo last night, but this morning it doesn’t have any delivery date on it! I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
I ordered mine from am AT&T store. Ten bucks says it’s two days *late*.
Two days? Har har. Expect it during the next keynote.
Saw it as 50 kg up there in the Tracking Details section first…then noticed the dot before it. Whew!
Looks like you went a little premature on this one. Yeah, mine originally said the 17th as the delivery date. Now it says 18th. It would not be a surprise if that slips to the 19th. If you notice, there is an origin scan and billing information but no departure scan. Until there is a departure scan, it is still sitting on the ground in China.
Yup mine still says “Billing Information Received” for a delivery date at 6/17 and has been that way for 12 hours…
Newest ????? tomorrow ..!
I have the 18th on mine.
Is it wrong that I plan to go to my local Apple store and taunt all the people standing in line if I actually get mine on the 18th?
From China to Redwood City in 1 day? Apple must be slipping some money in the pockets of the people at UPS and Customs or I don’t see it making that delivery date.
It’s a bit of a stretch but not by much. UPS has at least 18 direct flights a week from China to the U.S. (http://www.forb...rm_1002ups.html) plus keep in mind the time difference turns 2 days into one.
So if a package leaves UPS China at 7am on the 17th of June it will arrive in the U.S. at 4pm on the 16th of June our time. Assuming no customs issues (unlikely with something like this) that would make it on time to catch overnight transit to local UPS locations. That would put it on the delivery truck on the morning of the 17th. UPS delivery trucks can leave as early as 5am meaning you could, in theory, receive your iphone several hours before it was shipped (a.k.a. June 17th at 5am)
I hate timezone time calculations
I heard china uses DeLoreans to expedite iphone shipments. pretty slick.
This made me laugh out loud. I needed that.
Well..just called UPS and it seems like the 6/17 date is incorrect (some customs thing) but he did say it is to be delivered Thursday 18th, so I guess it is still kinda early
Ordered mine 6/8 and it’s still showing “not yet shipped” in the Apple Store. Apparently I’m not one of the cool kids yet.
LOL
Yeah, mine isn’t showing shipped yet… getting worried!! I blocked out my entire schedule this weekend for this!! LoL, not really. But I am looking forward to getting it Friday!
Called Apple and they said I will still get it on the 19th, even though my UPS delivery date is the 17th. I ordered with overnight shipping and Apple said that would be refunded.
I ordered on the 8th and I’m still getting the Ships: Jun 19, Delivers: Jun 22, message on the order status page. This makes me sad =(
I ordered on the 8th too but mine says “Ships: Delivers by June 19th”. Here’s hoping.
Same here ordered within the first few minutes after hitting refresh for about an hour, apple still says “prepared for shipment” delivering the 22nd… Called Apple, said I ’should’ receive it the 19th, and the 22nd is ‘worst case scenario’… The first email I got from Apple after my order was an apology about the mistake and assuring me I’ll have it on the 19th, yet every email and status check says the 24th, or 22nd… guess we’ll see
Mine shows the 18th as well.
I’m with Tom. Maybe I’ll go take pics of everyone in line at the Apple store with the 3Gs if it arrives the day before!
I’m jealous…I ordered mine 6/8 and yesterday it updated from “Not yet shipped” to “prepared for shipping”
mine says 18th. i’m even more excited now!
lol i accidentally uploaded a pic of my tracking number online but UPS assures me you cannot reroute a package unless they already attempted delivery. good to know!
Last night UPS said that mine would arrive on the 17th, though this morning it’s now saying the 18th.
I ordered mine on the 8th, and it appears it’s left Shenzen China, and already left international airport at Hong Kong.
My UPS says I’ll get it tomorrow, and I’m thinking it might actually work out. If not, no big deal, it’s still not ‘late’ by any means. I’m excited that it may be early.

Real-time UPS has-not, but they are still pretty decent for updates. But then I’ve never seen a faster shipment than Apple’s products. Both iPod and Macbook have been most speedy, and both tracked from China and were delivered as UPS reported. Have fun with the 3G and hope it activates tomorrow!
Well, mine just landed in Alaska, but the expected delivery date, which did say June 18th earlier, just disappeared. Right now no delivery date specified.
mine just landed in alaska as well. had a delivery date of tomorrow (the 17th) and now there is none. i knew 2 days early was way too good to be true.
Mine also says it landed in Alaska. And the expected delivery date, that before said June 17th is not there anymore. I live in New York now Alaska to New York in one day? Ups? I dunno…..i hope but yea i dunno…lol
Yup same vanishing delivery date trick…..I guess Apple didn’t care at first but when the news got traffic on blogs they decided they’d rather stick to a more ’sync’ed launch
@Diceman..I am in the NY area too and mine is sitting in Anchorage…yeah I don’t have THAT much faith in UPS
Update,
It’s left Alaska and the delivery date is back on schedule for the 18th! I’m thinking the disappearing date might be due to a built in customs delay in the tracking software.
Yes i just checked mine and it just went through the departure scan in Alaska and the delivery date is back up Mine for today in eastern time. June 17th !!. I’ll be one happy guy if thats the truth lol
I just checked my order which was placed on the apple site on June 8th. UPS provided me with the following:

EXCEPTION!! Damn, I knew it was too go to be true… my package left Alaska earlier today and my 6/18 delivery date appeared again but when it landed in Louisville, KY it seem like UPS got the memo from Apple to deliver on the 19th. “THE RECEIVER REQUESTED A HOLD FOR A FUTURE DELIVERY DATE. UPS WILL ATTEMPT DELIVERY ON DATE REQUESTED.” :-/
Same here!
OH NO!!!

I believe that is just the way UPS reports the US Customs, the delivery date should still be same after this.

Mine is on hold too. Part of me never expected to get it early (ordered it on 6/8) as why would Apple really allow that?
Question!
Once a package is in UPS’s hands, Apple has no say-so on how and/or where to “hold” it for delivery…..right??
I called UPS to ask about, and they said my delivery date (6.17) wasnt accurate at first, and my guaranteed date is (6.18) by 1030am.
It’s currently sitting in Louisville, KY, on hold.
Seems like Apple is blaming UPS….in this email i received from Apple Online Store:
” Our records indicate that your iPhone 3G S pre-order has shipped.
Our carrier’s website may have displayed an incorrect delivery
date for your order. However, we expect your iPhone order to be
delivered on time on June 19, 2009.”
I would imagine if Apple is paying UPS to ship hundred’s of thousands of iPhone, they probably can ask UPS to delay delivery.
My status is back to Exception as of ~9:40pm ET.

I am going to guess that Apple delayed the delivery of these by the two days. If they have a set date for such a huge advancement I am sure they do not want it leaked before. I have not heard much about this since so I am only guessing.
