Currently all apps are rated by number of downloads, regardless of the cost. That is like rating BMWs with Fiats. In the App store, the BMWs are forced to price their apps like the Fiats to get up the charts, which pushes the Fiats down the charts and into unviability. Unfortunately many developers will leave the Apple platform for greener pastures unless Apple changes things. The answer is to rate apps against other apps in the same price range. Yes, the iTunes App store will need changing, but the landslide in pricing has got to be handled to prevent a collapse of the market similar to the real estate collapse.
