It'll be quite difficult to reach out to the group of people who need to make the switch when the platforms of information to reach out to them remain the platforms that they aren't on in the first place. The newspapers - and probably the television broadcasters - would probably be more effective platforms. But then since right now it's the start of the transition, no one knows exactly how long the transition will take.

MG,

The digital conversion may actually result in MORE people using rabbit ears.

With YouTube/Hulu etc., and the fact that Comcast sucks (and the fact that we have a 5-year-old and we don't watch much TV anyway) I realized that we don't need/want cable at all, so we ditched it.

It turns out the best picture you can get on an HD set is the uncompressed signal sent out over the air by your local stations. Dish and Cable both compress, only Blu-Ray is as good of a datastream to the HD as what you can get over the air for free.

And the broadcast channels now have these extra channels. We get this great documentary channel now from our cool PBS station.

As for this digital transition, I'm just glad it's (almost) over. What I don't understand is why the stations didn't have it together enough to broadcast the warnings over and over and over and over only to the analog signal.

Those of us on digital had figured it out. Why did we need to see the warnings a zillion times?
