Most TechCrunch writers are iPhone users. And while we’re still debating whether when what time we will be upgrading to the iPhone 3G S next Friday, we are excited for the iPhone OS 3.0 next Wednesday. We’ve had a few requests to publish the apps we use on our iPhones – and we’re going to share that information with you now.
The following list is by no means all of the apps we have on our iPhones. There are plenty of apps we only use a couple times a month (e.g. Shazam), but when we need them, they’re great. We’ve also linked to any TechCrunch/CrunchGear/MobileCrunch reviews of the apps. Let us know which apps you use in the comments below.
| App | Users | Review |
| Yammer | 7 | |
| Qik | 6 | CG |
| Skype | 6 | CG |
| Tweetie | 6 | |
| 5 | MC | |
| foursquare | 4 | |
| Flight Control | 4 | TC |
| Pandora | 4 | TC |
| Recorder | 2 | |
| Loopt | 2 | TC |
| Strategery | 2 | |

| Instapaper | 2 | TC |

strategery ftw
Seconded.
thirded
I always wondered, what do you actually use an iPhone for? Is it an out of the office handy device that helps you on the move, or is it used in the office as something for doing quick things on? I’m tempted to get one but I’m unsure if I actually need it and what the actual purpose of it is, I see so many excellent apps but very few that have any real use.
I use it for quick email replys and websurfing when waiting inline, on the couch, etc. My number one app (which is actuall two of the same) is Jaadu RDP and Jaadu VNC.
With multitouch, using Windows or controlling my Media Center, doing system admin support, or anything can sometimes be even easier then on a real desktop. Two finger taps to right click, etc. Hands down its the best mobile remote desktop app I’ve ever used (and I’ve tried alot on WinMo, Nokia phones, etc.).
Contrary to belief, you can multitask this while still getting calls, download Podcasts in the background and listening to your iPod. Jaadu RDP even streams the audio from your desktop Windows PC back to you iPhone. Love it!
I would say out of office tool for convenience or work. I think every one has different uses for it. Of course you can wait till you get home to check all your accounts or you can check them on the go…it’s nice if you have web pages, and you need to see if everything is working the way it should while your away, etc.
How many total users does this entail?
I use Twitterfon very often
hey.. if you don’t want to wait until the official launch date of the new iphone OS(June 27th), you can download the new OS 3.0 and install it at your own risk from here:

Facebook mostly
The only iPhone apps I use regularly are Facebook and FML.
Google should make a GMail app so we can use all the GMail specific features such as multiple inboxes and conversations just to name a couple.
i totally agree. Google needs a gmail app. i cant believe they don’t have one.
Great to see Qik on the list!
yeah. now just get it working on the iphone 3.0 GM. Oh, and also the iPhone in general through the actual App Store
I don’t have any of those programs on my iphone so does that mean i am not cool
I use SipPhone a lot, i use it with my magic jack to call for free where ever i can.
Besides that i mainly use things like notepad, calendar, email and news and weather.
And maybe that is why i never understand why people complain about battery problems.
Quite simply, it is a post. It wasn’t meant to degrade you or belittle you.
Unfortunately, there is not an app to control insecurity, YET.
Move on…
REI BikeYourDrive is a great one. It uses GPX to plot your timestamped locations. You can then upload this file to your Facebook profile via the EveryTrail app to see a bunch of cool info:
– how far you went
– how fast you went
– the stoplights you hit
– etc.
My current fave.
Do any of you have jailbroken iphones? Here is my top 10 jailbreak apps..
http://www.peri...ss/?page_id=803
Seeing as 6 of them listed Qik as a favourite app – I’d say that at least 6 of them have their phone Jailbroken…
Or ad-hoc installs.
Hmm.. Thats true. Being TC, they could get ad-hoc installs pretty easily.
There’s another Brenton? And he reads TechCrunch?! And he’s different than the guy who stole http://facebook.com/brenton?!?
Wow. My name sucks this weekend.
CardStar. How can you not use it regularly?
no Taxi Magic?
I would love to get one but do I actually need one.
MLB play ball
How’d you get Qik to work on the iphone?
I use i.TV, Facebook and Wurdle the most.
I use Land Line Dialer to dial on a land line using the contacts in my iphone. Very handy.
I daily use FB, twittelator pro, pichirp pro, Amigo (really cool Friendfeed app), WSJ for news. linkedin, and TweetPhoto (not public yet).
The iphone apps have really enhanced how i work, consume, share and communicate.
wot. no babestation app
Well I put m.snaptu.com in my good ‘ol feature phone (and my Samsung Instinct) and downloaded an app that makes my existing one into an iPhone for free! Shiny icons and slidey screens the works. So I may not be an iPhone user, but my top apps are Snaptu Twitter, Facebook and Newsreader (cos you can import from Google reader)… oh and Sudoku – you missed that one. I saw a guy who works for Sprint recommending it on Twitter (JGoldsborough).
Richie’s tip from the top!
You can then upload this file to your Facebook profile via the EveryTrail app to see a bunch of cool .
So you screenscrape other people’s comments and attach them to your SPAM?
Classy.
NO . THE SAME COMMENTS I THOUGHT .
DO A SAME OPINION MY FRIEND.
I use Pandora in the car… it so rocks! Skype in conference mode has been sketchy so far.
I also use 1Cast to watch news and TechCrunch because I’m too lazy too open it in Safari.
Definitely Facebook.
I also love going to concerts, so find I Heart Concerts indispensable for keeping track of upcoming shows.
Love Flight Control for some relaxing moments between tasks, or standing in line.
I use only “Optical Illusion of The Day” since it brings new illusion to my phone daily, and oh… since I created it
How long until a TechCrunch app?
Gosh, Just the apps in the list? I use a lot on a daily basis! In the list I use Tweetie, facebook, pandora[daily].
I have a larger list of apps for educational purposes [Language study, almost everyday] and some others, news apps[ap, wsj, nyt, etc...], myspace, my own for access to accounts for a t-shirt business[actually bookmarks for quicker access to accounts], you can make bookmark type “apps”, some other social apps, access to banking, [names left out], and a lot more educational apps. I don’t do many games, but I have two that I use very often and lets not forget about SMS, mail the basic apps. lol! It’s a big list.
It’s like having my own lap top with me at all times, except I can’t create any graphics or upload files, just all the other stuff.
I don’t think I’ll upgrade the AT&T service because I can’t get the iPhone for the advertised price. AT&T is just a small % of my iPhone usage when I have Wi-Fi available.
mm… I use Beer Opener…
I absolutely love Toon Tango. A friend of mine built it, so I may be biased. We were laughing so hard yesterday using it.
Wow, if that’s not an endorsement for jailbreaking, I don’t know what is
I really am addicted to LabPixies’ new Floodit iPhone Application. It’s a mind thriller.
Why are new comments not showing up??
Evernote, Slacker Radio, Peggle, and iDaft FTW.
Use and love Picture Safe and Video Safe! They hide me PRON! so I won’t have a Liz Lemmon moment lol.
I use Twitterfon daily… Flixster for movies/times/theatres… Remote for the Macs in the house… Jobs for docketing/billing….SimpleMindX for brainstorming…. Ego for reviewing web stats…
Facebook is the best app that I use, but already getting kind of cumbersome. Why is there no linked in app?
there is
Cant believe you guys dont have CardSavvy to store all of your gift cards electronically!
Check it out and look forward to seeing an app called NumberNabber.
Easiest way to pick up someones phone number at a bar or anywhere. I garruntee it.
Do any of you know why the Qik app isn’t available on the app store?
Facebook, Analytics, TwitterFon. Can’t live without’em.
Check out my review of Analytics: http://blog.rob...-analytics-app/
Facebook, Yelp, Twitterific and Kindle
skype is really great on iPhone ))
great article! Very Interesting! Keep up the good work TC author.
hey, i’m waiting for my iphone to come in the mail. Thanks for all the cool app idea’s (i’m starting a list of apps i want lol) Is that numbernabber thing ever going to happen? because that seems like a good app to have lol…keep this stuff up, thanks for all the help!
I’m surprise facebook doesn’t come up on top of the list!
WTF?
Sadly, only one of us use that app so it didn’t make the list.
