[...] This isn’t news. AT&T’s network suffers constant congestion issues, resulting in frequent dropped calls. (This isn’t to say any other network trying to support a phone with this kind of market share would perform any better). To make matters worse the AT&T data network, even on “3G”, is clumsily slow. In fact, even AT&T’s planned 7.2 megabit network upgrade will be slower than what the other major networks have in the works. And a point that hits home to many road warriors - AT&T does not allow laptop tethering, which is a useful feature whereby users can access the Internet on their laptops via the cell phone data connection.
I just have to say this about the iPhone... it's not the big cash cow for AT&T that everyone says it is. I work for an authorized retailer, and we can't even sell the iPhone because of the cost it takes to get it into the store, and then Apple doesn't subsidize it like other phone companies do for their phones when it's sold on a contract. AT&T pays 600$ for each iPhone, and then they sell it for 200$...

Also, when AT&T first got the iPhone, it physically could not do MMS and tethering. If Apple had the forethought to put those things into the phone right away, AT&T could have grown with the iPhone, instead of Apple putting them in the position they are now.

Just remember there's two sides to every coin... and that Steve Jobs is a very "I want it my way, and my way only" kind of guy. People should stop putting all the blame on AT&T for all of the iPhone problems out there.

You mean to tell me that you guys haven't checked out http://mms.ifind2.com? let's face it AT&T sucks big time! They over charge customers left & right and when push comes to shove they leave you high & dry that's why i switched to Cricket on a Windows Mobile based phone. But if you want true working MMS on your I Phone then you must check this out. This is the most advanced so far that I've personally tried and I've tried like a dozen of them; the problem is that ATT is blocking port 555.

You know, this is why folks are jailbreaking their phones. Apple says that jailbreaking is unnecessary, yet they're pushing their customers more and more over the edge.

Jailbreaking is the only way for any of us around here to make the most of our iphones.

NO Video recording, NO Tethering? C'mon! We paid for our phones, and yet, they want us to buy another one, just for a video recorder?

Either Apple's gotta step it up, or everyone iPhone user will soon resort to jailbreaking.

Just me 2 cents.
