I totally agree with the idea that entertainers and people with real value to their content will benefit from this.

However, using Britney Spears as an example has me curious: if it wasn't free, would so many people have followed her to begin with?

With StockTwits, I can understand that they are offering information that could potentially lead to income; what celeb is offering that? To pay to follow Ashton Kutcher would be like paying for HBO or other "premium" channels.

Maybe online colleges would find real use in this? Offer a month-long micro-course?

Time will tell, right?

I get it, everyone's trying to find a way to monetize Twitter. But is this really it?

Why would someone pay to subscribe to something they can probably get somewhere else for free. I've yet to see a good example of a Twitter stream worth paying for that I can't find somewhere else.

[...] TWITTER FEES: 83 Degrees is launching a new service called Super Chirp that lets Twitter users get paid for their content stream. This is great news for celebrity tweets, says Michael Arrington; Britney Spears, for example, has 1.7 million Twitter followers. “How many of them would be willing to pay $1, or $10, per month to see a premium stream of her content?” Good question, actually. 83 Degrees is launching ‘Super Chirp’ that plans monetizing celebrity Twitters through subscription streams.
Skeptical since the Tweeters who benefit the most are probably the one's that don't need an additional revenue stream (i.e. celebs) and may not take advantage. Many others who want the revs may try it, and wind up losing the majority of their audience.

Interesting to see play out.

I'm really just whining I suppose - I want ONLY the tasty bits (even when I have no clue as to what they may be about) without the drivel and the tweets made (obviously) just to tweet something. Alligator tears ... I know. I'll whine quietly to myself now.
