Which is why I take pics of the clothing I pick out for the fellas and send them via email.

I also shop the sale racks at all of the major dept stores.

I charge by the hour... This way you pay for the time, and there is not pressure to buy a ton of stuff.

I'm not loyal to any dept store or any brand name. I just shop your budget only.

And for those of you who do like to shop... Understand that MOST of you don't...

And that's real! So stop being so judgmental...

~BMHTS (Because Men Hate To Shop)~

P.S. I'm not as pretty, and I do come equipped with a geezer belly....LOL

Luke, glad you have been impressed, but honestly the only thing she has created is a multi-level marketing scheme where ANYONE regardless of their talent, background, or passion can buy into becoming a "certified" consultant. She "trains" them? Who is she to "certify" a stylist? What is her background in fashion and/or styling - (other than perhaps being a Nordstrom sales person). Hell, I could "certify" people with my fancy talk to become auto mechanics even though I have no bloody idea how to fix a car...
In other words, her resume in regards to fashion is conspicuously missing!

It's a genius model for her if she can continue it because right now, she isn't dependent upon making a single sale.
I just feel bad for the very few stylists that have a background in this field that have to deal with this quality of clothing in attempting to dress their clients.

They've taken sales/support chat to a new level by combining Skype with efficient scheduling and accurate customer profiles. Most businesses barely know what their own employees want, let alone their customers. Trunk Club also TRAINS their salespeople. Shocking concept.

This has been my experience when shopping for clothes: with rare exception, boutique salespeople pressure you to buy anything and everything. Often the most ridiculous clothes. Mall salespeople on the other hand; $8/hour clueless.

At first, I was skeptical. As a customer, I'm impressed.

Sorry Israel, but you obviously don't understand the fundamental difference between ecommerce and traditional retail. The shipping cost embedded in the inventory of a brick and mortar store is a fraction of what it costs an etailer to ship each individual order to customers. Physical stores don't order one polo shirt at a time; they place bulk orders that spread shipping costs over their entire inventory. The freight for any one item is negligible. When you go into Old Navy and buy one T-shirt, you don't pay the cost of packaging and shipping that one item somewhere. The fact that TrunkClub boasts that it has no minimum order requirements with manufacturers means that it likely maintains no inventory at all, which is not unusual for an e-tailer. Operations like this one forward their orders to the manufacturer or another distributor who then "drop ships" the items to the customer. Since multiple manufacturers or distributors may be involved in a single order, there may also be multiple shipping bills on that order. And in this model the shipping costs must be further increased to cover the potential cost of return shipments. On small retail purchases, shoppers can often offset the increased shipping costs of ecommerce because they can avoid paying sales tax. However, more online sellers are collecting tax all the time (e.g. Dell), and the states are going to keep pushing to make all of them do it. Someday, the tax collectors will win.

Obviously: the nerds reading this blog find the idea appealing because it requires them to do nothing except type.

Nerds: Go upstairs. Walk outside. Get on your sister's bicycle. Ride toward shopping mall. Get beat up. Dust yourself off. Go into men's clothing store. Use Mom's discover card to purchase shirt and pants. Ride sister's bike home. Log into daily diary under "Greatest adventure EVER."

@utsuri You're ridiculous. Everything you've ever bought at a physical retailer had the shipping "embedded into the product itself". Same goes for every other "free shipping" model you've seen in your life. Congrats on finally arriving at this unremarkable conclusion.

I think the company IS interesting because there is a big gap in retail e-commerce solutions, especially with clothes. People prefer purchasing some things at brick-and-mortar stores, and clothing is the classic example. This startup is attacking a problem that some mammoth industries have yet to overcome.

If someone can tear down the brick-and-mortar walls of boutique clothing, what could be next? What other products could follow this model?

With regards to all those out there who really think that a $40.oo dress shirt looks as good as something more tailored in a much nicer/better fabric is fooling themselves. Suits? Same deal... you do get what you pay for. And those buying their suits at a discount suit outlet (or an ill-fitting one from an outlet mall because that's what was on sale) will make a completely different impression than someone in a well-made tailored suit that fits like a suit should...

That said, I don't think you NEED to always spend a lot of money to look good and there is a ton of shite out there that is waaaay overpriced. Case in point, the Hugo Boss shirt at $180! $180.oo isn't necessarily too much for a really nice shirt (and it's not a bad idea to have at least one), but I would not be getting something so generic from Boss' bottom label for that dough. It's also certainly true that the way one needs to dress is quite dependent upon their field and/or bosses or clientele. You are not going to sell a million dollar house in a costco t-shirt!

Which brings up the question of what the hell are they posting this article here for? This is obviously a forum where it's clear (by the reluctance to spend about $15 on a shirt) that no one here is really a good potential client for them. Anyone sooo turned off by the idea of spending money on well-made clothes won't give two shites about this service. It seems just as easy to walk into any mall anchor (Macys) and spend 20 minutes picking out what this stylist did - and yes, for much less too.

This seems to be their marketing structure - to post ambiguous videos and editorials about how great of a business school student the founder is/was. Is this really a decent marketing structure for a business that is selling style and fashion? What clown thought this one up? It's quite sad, but if you google them, this article is the third hit --- not such good pr with all the now negative comments!

Maybe it's time to fire someone.

As I said earlier, I still think it's a good idea in the right hands of people that know what they are doing styling-wise and subsequently marketing to people that aren't going to have their panties in a not over a $48.oo t-shirt!

I would be all over this service if not for the pictures/prices. One of the reasons I'm doing well in life is I would never spend $179 for a dress shirt. I've rarely paid more than $40 for a dress shirt and I have a bunch that I love.

Ditto the polo shirts for $59 and $95. That is insane. I just bought some polo shifts at Costco for $18 each and others at the Brooks Brothers Outlet for $25. Even the Brooks Brothers main website's awful prices are only $40 each.

So, while I love the idea of the service and would gladly pay for the experts' time and attention, I would only do it if they were also good at finding "great deals." I think that is the only way this business has a prayer of being successful.
